I'm getting a 2020 Tacoma and it comes with the flip back Tonneau cover. On my older 2006 Tacoma, I had a roll up cover. The roll up cover worked well and never had an issue with it.

How well do the flip back style of tonneau covers work and hold up?

Any disadvantages to the flip back style?

1+ year and zero issues with mine. Still looks great, and keeps pretty much all rain out. Only disadvantages come from limiting space for things, and some added weight. It is very easily removed it you need to haul something, and you can drive with it flipped back so long as you secure the clips.

I had a 2014 Tacoma with roll up, worked OK except trying to resnap in cold weather.
I have a tri fold hard on my 2019, more secure, works in all weather. Only downside is I can’t easily fold third section to open entire truck bed.

I liked my truxedo lo pro lq cover better than the Toyota oem cover. I could roll the truxedo all the way up or take it off in 2 seconds.
