Hey everyone, I'm looking for advice on the type of lift or suspension I should get for my 2009 Tacoma 2wd Prerunner sport.

I do quite a bit of off-roading, but it's mainly the dirt trails in the desert or mountains while camping.

There are 100 different ways to lift a truck. I'm looking for something simple and not too pricey.

So far I'm in between a spindle lift or the Bilstein 5100 3"/OME 887/ AAL

I'm taking the most common answer into consideration.

5100s are great. With no armor on a prerunner you will get 3 inches for sure

I did this exact setup. 887+5100 and 3 leaf progressive aal and .5in blocks with toytec boss shocks but many go with 5100s all around
Love it got 3in front and 2.5 in back with a topper, still got an inch of rake

I'd go spindles for 2wd personally.

My buddy says the bilstein suspension lift will have more wear and tear on the balls joints.

    Thoughts on that?

Go spindles. You will get the lift you want plus keep close to factory ride.

Looking at going 4" Maxtrac Spindle Kit with Bilstein 5100's front and rear. My Truck has 108k so I figure the stock Bilstein's are about done.

Personally I went bilsteins all around just as an upgrade over stock plus the 2.5” preload for fronts and maxtrac spindles for the 4”. Rear end has b110 (extended 5100) and an all pro expo leaf pack with 1.5” block.

5100’s are great. No noticeable wear and tear on the ball joints. Once you’re over 3 inches you will start to see suspension problems like tie rods. Control arm bushings. Loose steering. I’ve had no issues with 5100’s and currently at 150k miles.

Welcome to TW. Maxtrac Spindles would be the way to go on a PreRunner.

You are correct, lots and lots of options here.

It will mainly come down to how much $ you'd like to spend (dont have to empty the accounts) but I'd be more inclined now to say "buy once cry once"

I have to go with this as well. I struggled for a while and decided to go this route. Super helpful.

OME 887, 5100s, ICON 3 leaf AAL. The thumbnail pic is right after the lift. Couldnt be happier.
