How do you like it? I found an orphan bottle of OE 7 at TW a while ago but haven't opened it yet. It was 1 bottle sitting on a shelf space designated for something else. There was no shelf label for this bottle and when I asked about it at the front desk they said they don't carry it, didn't know how it got there. Really strange.

    So this happened today:

Was at a lottery at one of the local Liquor Barns. Probably just north of 1000 people there. I was the 50th called. All they had by then was Lot B and Old Rip. I've have a buddy with the Lot B so I grabbed the Rip. Woot!

I've been to probably 6 or 7 of these lotteries plus the "silent" ones where you go sign up at Kroger and they call the winners. First time getting picked so I'm pretty happy about it.

It's good. Not great, but good. I'm glad @Misplaced Nebraskan was able to hook it up at retail.*

Maybe a little more robust than OGD114 with a slightly longer finish. I don't think it is worthy of the overreaction it received early on.

*Zach, I know I still owe you. Trying to find a fun bottle to swap you, rather than just sending cash, but I can do that otherwise. I haven't forgotten, though ;).

I would've apologized for the confusion and left with "the bottle I walked in with"

Saw this last night while picking up a Buffalo Trace barrel select by Harlen Wheatley.

    20191213_175015.jpg

This wasn't going on display, it was going home with a guy that ordered and prepaid for it. I think he was the runner for some rich dude or something. It was a young guy taking it and he didn't seem interested in talking spirits (this is a very tight knit store and many of us were chatting in there). Could have been his, though.

When he left, another customer asked what was special about that bottle. We told him what little we knew. He then asked the clerk, "What's the cost? $300-400?" The clerk replied, "$15,000 and it is 375ml".

From the reviews I’ve read, I’m glad I grabbed the Old Rip as well. If tasting notes are to be believed, it better fits what I like in a bourbon anyway. I’ve only had the Lot B and found it dry, with almost a waxy flavor/texture. Hard to pin down exactly what it was, but I thought it was only okay.

about 10 years ago i found a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 with the paper seal still on the cork. and yet the bottle was about 1/5 gone from evaporation. the bottle had no date on it, but i remember seeing it as early as i could remember from my childhood. i probably remember first seeing it maybe 1973-4. who knows how old it was.

gave it to my FIL, a former WT101 man. he cracked it open and decanterd it, stuff was dark, way more than normal.

how was it? he said it was nasty. oh well.

I'm not worried about it. I'm game for bottle or bottles. Up to you on selection. Just not all mellow corn

Full trd pro suspension. Toytec progressive add-a-leaf pack (with overload in). Sema trd 4runner rims. 285 70 17 ridge grapplers. Satoshi grill.
Go with Booker's. Not crazy expensive and is highly respected. If you looking under $50 go with 1792, eagle rare, four roses single barrel or basil hayden

Listen to this man! I'm a Booker's whore, though, for what it's worth.

I suppose part of it depends on your price point. Also do you know if he likes scotch? Or more of a bourbon person? I'm also going to throw out Old Forester 1920 for a sub $60 option. Four Roses Small Batch Select is also good for about $50 and would be appreciated.

Had some other stuff tonight, but here is pour #1 and #2.

Here's what I told my whiskey buddies regarding the two:

The Mellow Corn tastes cheap, but doesn't care what you think. Light, sweet, zero complexity, nothing offensive. It's the Crown experience for a third the price and no Canadian jock strap filtration.

Act 7 of MWND has a heavier port influence than I recall in acts 5 & 6, but I'll have to verify. It's what Basil Hayden Dark Rye tried to be, but wasn't. Very rich, would best be enjoyed as a digestif on a cold evening. Hay, nutmeg, clove style rye taste up front, super full bodied floral and dried fruit finish escorted by the port. Home run like always.

assuming by enthusiast you mean collects and enjoys lots of whiskey.....the nikka Coffey grain is a pretty unique choice, super friendly to most palate and most people would never buy a random Japanese for themselves

Just had this gifted to me from a buddy who knows my affinity for High West. He works for their parent company. It's about 24" x 16". It'll look great in the home office near the stash!

Also just got a picture of another whiskey related decorative piece from @Kanyon71, but I'll keep that under wraps until it arrives ;). That will be a really cool addition :D.
