    Maybe you should get a 2.5-ton to replace it? Either the unit is too small for the house, or the house is poorly insulated.

    House is definitely poorly insulated, I am hoping to improve upon that in the future, the Furnace guy was sizing the new system from the current one.

    That would possibly require a larger A/C unit and definitely a larger indoor coil...

    I am assuming the new system he worked up in my quote is the same size. The age of the current system and the insulation are probably the main reason it struggles. I had a new attic fan installed during my new roof and that helped remove a little bit of heat from the house as the old one was burnt up.

    I found the quote he gave me and it says 70,000 95% Rheem Furnance and 2.5 Ton AC / 2.5 Ton Coil, new line set, new cement pad, new thermostat, and 10 year warranty.

    Good deal, sounds like you and he are on the same wavelength then. So with a new system and some better insulation I should expect better heating and cooling?

    Definitely! But don’t oversize it too much or else the unit will bring the house to the set temperature before the air is fully conditioned.

    The other day, I found a picture of a late model Land Cruiser that had obviously been taken in Pyongyang, North Korea. This got me to thinking how the situation in North Korea have struck a nerve with me since the late 1990s. I was about five years old when the Arduous March began, but I didn't really pay attention to international news. It was in about 1997 when I first really learned about North Korea. Some of it was through the news, but a lot of it came from commercials for charity/nonprofit organizations. They would talk about these kids who were forced to walk the streets without shoes, among other things, and it really got to me. We were living in Northern California at the time, and I had more toys than I knew what to do with. My parents were driving me around in vehicles with air-conditioning and power windows, while these poor kids were walking around without shoes. I always told my mom I wanted to "donate money to the kids in North Korea", beginning when I was 8 or 9 years old. If I remember correctly, my parents actually did donate some of my Christmas money to one of these charities, along with quite a bit of their own money.

    To this day, I am still a very giving individual. I keep a certain amount of money set aside for car shows (and staying in hotels while attending car shows far from home). In 2017, when those hurricanes hit Texas, I donated $75 from my car show fund to the American Red Cross. Considering that I typically spend between $10 and $25 per car show just for tickets, this was a substantial amount!

    @shakerhood

    Your house is worth a little over fifty grand; If it burned down or otherwise got totaled, do you think it could be rebuilt for what you paid for it?

    Well during the appraisal process they credit union valued it at $70K before any renovations, the insurance company set the rebuild value at $125K on my Policy so I should be ok.

    I cannot imagine what my parents' house would be worth in your area. There are houses in my neighborhood worth close to a million dollars!

    There was this huge mansion up on a mountain top that had like 7 or 8 garages and stuff for close to a million.

    One of the nice things around here is most places have quite a bit of acreage.
