haha. I can definietly tell you that it does its job down below ~4100 rpms... above that if you were to wire it open (long runner mode) the full time... you bastardize top end by easily 20hp on a stock truck.

i think its a retarded idea to get rid of it. Obviously boost negates it to a point, but why take away something thats gonna help you get to positive air pressure faster. Not to mention in a small diesel, if you blink at the wrong time youre gonna miss the 27rpms its actually making peak power

Downloaded @JustDSM 2.0 tune with some added timing.............completely surprised again how much of a difference it made. Can someone explain to me how adding timing works with knock sensors that retard timing when needed? Are the trucks so far retarded from the factory there is that much room for improvement? Do we raise the knock sensor limit? Curious to how all this works. Loving this more and more.

You have alot of googling to do :D but the ecu will pull timing advance if it detects knock.

I'm not really sure how to word this correctly... how much can I change the internals on a 4.0L and still pass California smog? (Compression, camshafts, porting, etc...) Can a "detuned" ECU do that sort of thing?

Technically if you pass visual, and when they hook their scanner up to your OBD and see no pending or faults you are good. They no longer do any sniffer test for cars newer than MY 2000

dammit. theyre atleast on CANbus and HP might be able to do something with it. FJ is my only local option opposed to making any of you blokes run around scrap yards and mailing one over

I'm over there in March, I've printed the wiring diagrams and going through everything pin by pin to work out exactly which ones work.

from what i can tell at the quick glance, the FJ runs the correct CANbus protocol we need and is pinned the same as the taco in that respect.
pretty sure i found 1 or two blokes on the FJ forums that have HP tuners running in their rigs. @JustDSM your name has been thrown around a bit if maybe you can shed some light on it?

The single VVTi 1GR-FE FJC's should be supported. The 2010+ FJC's are dual VVTi and not supported (yet).

Here's a source for some light reading while you're waiting for support, although I'm almost certain the dual VVTi 1GR-FE produced in 2009 listed below are 2010 model years (4Runner/FJ Cruiser):

    Dual VVT-i
    Toyota 4Runner (GRN280/285) 2009–
    Toyota FJ Cruiser 2009–2017
    Toyota Tundra (GSK50/51) 2010–
    Toyota Land Cruiser 2012–
    Lexus GX 400 (GRJ150) 2012–
Toyota Land Cruiser 70 30th Anniversary Edition 2014-2015
    Toyota Fortuner 2015–
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (GRJ150/150R/155) 2009–

ye right. problem being, the HILUX we have down here which is our Taco, regardless of year, never had dual VVT-i. whether theres a work around or not, but looking on the surface, says that i cant put a FJ ecu into out HILUX. maybe for aguements sake you can put one in a TACO, but as we never saw a FJ over here until the Dual VVT-i, basically it counts that out as far as trying to get around the Hilux's lack of CANbus.

i swear i hate this country more and more every day

There is some (limited) FJ Support at the moment.

To my knowledge, 33555000, 33555100, and 3YWK0400 are supported. There may be more, but I'm aware of support for those calibrations.

Very limited support at the moment, but they do appear willing to add definitions for the FJ specific calibration ID's. Seems sending in the .bin file goes a long ways as they don't have to hunt down an ECU and physically extract it.

That datalog complements my dyno, with it in normal operation, and then locked in either direction. Without a s/c, the effects are drastically noticed even by the seat of the pants.
