I’m sorry that this happened to you OP... sending you my best wishes for a positive recovery! What causes the problems with walking after an incident like this? Did the virus cause nerve damage or something? Im glad you are still here with us to share your story and enjoy your Tacoma :)

The virus swells the spinal cord, this puts pressure on it and causes legions. Those block signals from my brain to my legs.

If it's a virus, was it West Nile?

A co-worker of mine got WNV a few years ago and went through something really similar. He's totally fine now but from what he told me, it sounds like he had a rough few months when it happened.

While they cant confirm, they are pretty sure thats what it was. It was pretty rough, I missed a good part of my summer and fall because of it too :( So next summer I will be burning all my vacation days to go do everything I missed last year.

Im doing well, done with PT. I tried going to the mall with the kids, about 20 minutes into it I was wiped out though. Right now its working on my endurance, but its hard to do with all the snow.

I will say, I have a new found hatred for non-handicap accessible places and people who like to park and sit in the handicap spots. Some doors I cant open because I cant get enough leverage on them.

Im still very thankful to those girls.

Very helpless. To feel how I felt, duct tape your hands into fists, tape your legs together and then go drink a few shots.... then try to get out of your truck or dial your phone. Its crazy how much we rely on our fingers everyday.

My neurologist is betting on west nile. He says that when the people did the test, they did it on blood, and the blood test is not accurate compared to the spinal fluid check. But he says all my symptoms match west nile perfect.

Scary to think about how that could've been and what could've happened.

I haven't read the thread, how do you think you got the virus, do you know or is it a mystery?

I think I have a idea. I have a cat that likes to kill small animals (cat things). My wife hates that so when he gets out I have to go find him. Well he always goes into the big thick woods. Lots of mosquitoes out there. I believe that’s when I was bit

I'm glad you're getting better, been following your story since you first posted, very scary indeed. On a lighter note, you have firmly reinforced my undiluted bias against cats. :)
