So i have installed a deaver leaf pack and bilstiens in the rear to compensate my mid-travel kit in the front on my 2005 DC LB and am very dissapointed. I got the recomendation to do this from the shop and i don't want to throw anybody under the bus but lets just say i am not happy with the money i spent. It was not an add a leaf kit it was a full replacement leaf pack and the bilstien 5100.

Basicaly my problem is that i bottom out over everything from small dips in neighborhoods to little bumps in the road etc. everyday all the time everytime i drive. driving me nuts.

I need some help from you experienced people. I called a shop today and was basically told that the only thing to do to get the kind of performance i want is to do a spring under kit with full bed cage and all and that it would only be $8000-$10000!!!! This would be great if i had this money lying around but i don't and if i did would probably just 4-link the rear end and go all the way.

Anyways i need some suggestions tired of bottoming out. Is this leaf pack i bought is to soft to fix with just a good resi shock? Has anyone fabbed up some kind of bracket in the fender well to run a 10" bypass or resi shock? did this work? how is all-pro's rear susp kit, anyone try this? would i need to buy the whole kit or everything but the leafs? Any other ideas would be awesome!!!

I am trying to probably stay within like $500 - $1500 to fix this problem. My main concern is that i don't spend more cash to end up with the same result. pretty upset with my purchase feel like i threw my money away at this point.

please help and thanks for all and any help.

    a lot!
R u sure your bottoming out? Maybe the shocks can't absorb the impact adequately. Meaning there too stiff instead of too soft?

yes i still have the stock bumps.

I was thinking about trying the super stops but even with those i am gonna be on them all the time with how often im bottoming out. I know number one is getting a bigger shock in there just curious if i need to just get a good 8' resi shock or if i can fit a 10" resi or bypass in by welding a new upper bracket to mount it. Then whether or not i need to change the leafs out to a different set. whatever it is i am willing to do it just don't want to waste anymore money.

cheaper is better but not if i end up in the same spot.

Maybe get a custom leaf pack, or call up deaver and tell them wats up and see if they will help you.

I've known people with an aal and OME or 5100's and don't have a problem.

What type of stuff are you bottoming out on? Gutters? Speedbumps?

Go jump in the bed and get a spotter to see if you are really bottoming out.. I highly doubt you are, it is probably the shock not the leaf springs with the problem.

oh yeah it is definately bottoming out. the problem is that the deavers are a softer spring and especially now that they are broken in they are softer than stock. That in unison with the 5100 which is a little better than stock but still not really that great of shock its just not for this application. the guys at total chaos said this happens a lot with this truck but basically reffered me to dmz who does there rear ends, and they told me $8-$10000.

so im curious what is working from all of your experience out there. i do like to run my truck so it will need to withstand a little bit of a beeting but nothing to crazy. I know its not a long travel and need to not break it but do like to run it a little bit.

I have tried and have never bottomed out with a 3-leaf AAL. Haven't drove with a heavy load but have had at least 900lb of people in the bed parked. And in the desert haven't hit the bump stops (that I have felt) Though I do have an access cab.

yeah i didn't do the aal which might have been better to keep it a little stiffer. As for checking with a spotter i will have to do that in the morning when i get to work. As far as bottoming out its on everything from like little dips/gutters, speed bumps, little divots in the road or freeway if im doing like 15 mph or more, etc

so your saying the shock is possibly bottoming out? so then getting a longer stroke shock should fix this or would just a better shock fix this if this is the problem

I would do the spotter check thing first. Then if its the shock then get a good set of shocks. If it is in fact the springs then call up deaver.

Too me it sounds like something is too stiff. This could be the leafs or the shocks. I just don't see you bottoming out on divots in the road. Either way I think a different shock would help your situation.

Either it's bottoming out or it's too stiff for your application and isn't absorbing anything.
