Shopping cart scratches

Came out of the grocery store last night to find a shopping cart against the side of my truck. Blowing and raining like crazy and people get lazy. I’m the guy who parks away from everyone to avoid this kind of thing but obviously didn’t work last night. Pretty sure there was smoke rolling out my ears when I seen it.

Anyways, any detail guys
on here have any input on this? Fixable without painting the door ? I can feel it slightly with my nails. I know it’s hard to tell from a picture, but just looking for some input till I can swing by a shop tomorrow. I like to keep my truck cleaned and waxed all the time so this is a huge piss off, with only 22,000km on a year old truck.

 

That sucks Dude. Especially when you work to keep it clean and straight.

I actually have this here, I’m a little scared to try anything on it till I get a body guy to check it out.

 

So so cranky about it, next time I see someone leave their cart I’m gonna lose my shit.

 

It doesn’t look like those are crazy deep scratches, I’ve had pretty good luck with the Turtle Wax scratch removal kit for scratches that haven’t gone past the clear. Good luck man that sucks

 

Next time park in the back forty and stop being lazy jk. Definitely sucks but I do park a mile away from everyone else

 

That’s the worst part ! I was in the back forty, lucky it didn’t dent the door I guess. I’m guessing it came from quite a piece away

 

I'm not a detail guy, but I've used the

$18 Meguiar's Quik Scratch Eraser Kit, Car Scratch Remover for Repairing Surface Blemishes, Car Care Kit with ScratchX, Drill-Mounted Pad, and Microfiber Towel, Multicolour

kit with the wheel to clean up some serious pin striping. I was able to feel them slightly with my nail too, but they still buffed out.

 

Pretty sure chemical guys have a product that will take care of this I think it’s a 2 step process. I believe I have one in my car clearing supplies never needed it.

 

I have a set of sliders going on my truck at some point so I can avoid this type of crap,I feel your pain.

 

I went out and gave it a quick rub with the MeGuiars Ultimate compound and it took most of it out except the squiggles on the far right !

Gonna get this and give it a try if they have it at Canadian Tire tomorrow!

I have heard lots of good about Chemical Products, but I think they only sell the wax here locally !

I think they will be on mine in the future if not a pair of sidesteps or I seen a thread on here some where where a few guys made some faux sliders for this exact reason. Absolutely no rocks where I live, island of red dirt so no need for sliders. If it means avoiding this crap though I’d blow the coin.

 

I’d use the scratch x, or even better a clay bar to get the scuffs off, then you can evaluate it.

If then you can catch your fingernail on it, you’re not going to get it completely out without risking the clear in that area but you can hide it decently. Ether way, Meg’s m105 to even it out followed by Megs M205 to shine it back up would be my plan of attack on that. Those two have surprised me many times and are my primary go to on most anything. I usually get them at harbor freight using the coupons since they have them. You can also do Megs ultimate compound followed by Megs ultimate polish, they are almost just as good.

If you have access to a DA polisher with an orange and then a white pad it will make your life a lot easier as you won’t feel your arm for two days after trying to get that out with the amount of buffing your likely need on that.

 

Update, was in getting grocery’s and mentioned what happened to the store manager while I was there and he actually offered to pay for me to take it somewhere to be fixed! Pretty excited for that, never would have dreamt that would happen but I’m can’t complain.

 

I’d check with a good detail shop first and let them look at it before you take it to a body shop if they are going to pay for it. That damage looks pretty light from the pictures, an experienced detailer who is knowledgeable with wet sanding may be able to get that out without damaging the clearcoat. Then you don’t have to worry about respraying and color matching, etc.

 

just stand in front of that exact spot when you show people how nice your truck is.

 

Yes ! Defiantly gonna shop around for a good detailer, really don’t want to get into painting the door.

At all cost if this can be buffed out that would be the best case. Painting your truck is like a major surgery.
