BUYER BEWARE: New 3rd Gen Tacoma Tailgate Opener

Good news is we got it opening just have to see when KTJO4x4 pops on what the issue with the open on 1 and 2 clicks could be . Can you happen to make a video of it ?

 

Will try. I have bee. Rereading all the threads over the last few hours and was wonder if I got the blue and green wires from the actuators wrong when I wired them to the harness. The way the harness is no way of telling which blue/green wire went to which actuator. I noticed the tailgate actuator operates but the lock actuator does not seem to be working.

 

took everything apart and redid the wiring and it still opens on 2 clicks. I don't think the locking actuator is working. I noticed on that on the 4th click the actuator moves but not enough to move the locking hardware in the tailgate.

 

Still trying to figure why my opener opens on the 2nd click instead of third click, was also wondering if I have a problem with the locking actuator. Might be a stupid question, but how do I verify the locking hardware is working? When I lock the doors I assume the tailgate should be locked. When my doors lock and I try to open them they won't open until I unlock them, figured the same should be for the tailgate but when I pull the handle the tailgate opens. Somebody please set me straight. Thanks.

Can you send me some pictures in a PM. It seems like you don’t have something installed correctly. I’m thinking the rod isn’t moving far enough to lock the mechanism enough to actually lock the tailgate for one. Let’s fix this issue first. Then we will move on the the opener.

Tacodnr, took your suggestion about cutting down the bed bump stops and now the tailgate works on a consistent bases. Opens every time on the 4th click of the fob. I should of figured it out myself, the tailgate would open ever time with the tailgate cover off. When I would put it back on it would not open every time. Live and learn. Now off to my next mod.

 

So I have a viper 5906v and I am interested in adding this mod. Would I still click unlock 3 times to make it open? There are auxiliary function buttons, including one made specifically for popping a trunk. I wonder if those could be set to just pop it. Any ideas?

I want to say that the answer unfortunately is no that the button wouldn’t as the module isn’t set for that it is set to communicate with the key fobs unlocking mechanism, but like @TRD Larry said, this is a question for @DSIM

 

Id have to look up the scematic for that system but I am assuming there is a wire on the brains thats triggers when the aux button is pressed. If that is the case then instead of wiring my module to the unlock signal it would be wired to that aux trigger wire and my module would sense for 3 button presses. Should be doable. I wouldnt mind reprogramming the module to 1 button press if you figure it out and dont want to press 3 times. @tpp4

 

I was just thinking on this earlier. Couldn't I also make use of the signal wire from the viper brain box with the b harness? Essentially this would be using the signal to bypass the switch in the console so I could have both

Lock your truck. Then unlock it with the fob. Does the passenger door unlock with the first press or second?

 

Bharness wont work. Bharness is triggered when 2 wires in the bharness are connected (circuit is completed with the button press). But its coming off 5 volts from the module. 12v to that wire will likely fry the module as there is no voltage divider on that input.
