Man, I need to check the underbody of my '16. I live in the states covered under that original letter so I'm assuming mine will come someday. Frustrating to think that this has been an issue for generations of Tacomas yet its still an issue. My Dad bought an '01 and had some serious issues with the frame buckling while driving down the road. He parked it and had Toyota come get it. They completely replaced his frame so it its like he has a new truck now. While its good they're taking these steps its bad they don't fix the underlying issue.

Smart move. Never had any rust on my trucks before I moved north. Lived in Fl most of my life. Jupiter for 11 years. Would rinse after driving on beach or if it was super windy to rinse the sea spray off. My 04 was immaculate when I sold it. So was my 15 until I came to LI.
Don't marry a girl from up north haha.

Got into an arguement with my dad about this BS too. Barked at me to get the truck undercoated .00003 seconds after I got it. I've lived in shit hole PA most of my adult life and have had dozens of cars from every make and model. I drive my vehicles year round in the nasty salt and snow and have never once had a single issue with even 1 spot of rust on any car whether I kept it for 2 years or 10. Why? Because I constantly hand wash my vehicles without fail at a minimum of every other weekend, max once a week. And park them inside the garage. I use a pressure washer, with an attachment that wheels under the vehicle and sprays up. Every sports car I bought and sold looked like the day it drove off the assembly line withthe exception of dents, scratches and chips as that doesnt wash out. People drive their car all winter, let it sit outside, and never wash it or wash it using a shitty car wash and then bitch when it rusts? I'm a military guy, you gotta perform proper preventative maintenance or it wont last. Sure it's a pain in the ass, but when I think "damn I spent 45k+ on this thing" it motivates my lazy ass to get out there and detail it. The only naysayers to this technique are ether the ignorant or the lazy. Toyota is no better or worse than any other company when it comes to the reality that metal oxidizes. Letting your car or truck sit for even hours with contamination that accelerates that process on it can be all it takes to get that first speck of rust.

Yep that's me too lazy to wash it so I dont drive it. Bought a 2018 when they first dropped at the dealership over two years ago and have only put 5,624 on the odometer. Having multiple vehicle is a full time detailing job so the garage queen only get taken out on sunny days when the pavement is dry, the birds are not out and the humidity is below 30%.:D

were you using a heated or non-heated garage?
i have been fortunate 'i suppose' to have a non-heated garage for this long so that it was not 'over cooked' or whatever
made it to the wand wash like yourself when the white haze on my black bitch disappear which means 'i thought' the chemicals were getting active again
unfortunately my lazy half rigormortised rear missed some key spots that i was unaware of were very troublesome, thanks local Toyota dealers for all your lack of info in regards to informing me... Oh,What a Feeling! :D

i thought i was doing my friggn best...
p.s. had dealer rubbery undercoat applied 'somewhat' when bot new, it was thin

I have 2015 DCOR that I bought a few months ago. I'm in RI and I haven’t received a letter yet and it doesn’t show up when I put the VIN in their system. The truck for living in New England its whole life just has a bit of surface rust (which I'm going to deal with in the spring). Honestly the shocks look the worst with surface rust on them. I guess the question is should I call Toyota customer service or just sit tight and wait to see if I get a letter?

Second owner? Don't count on Toyota. Your truck, your responsibility. Take it to dealer for inspection and make sure you and your truck are linked in Toyota data base.

Cool thanks, I did put the VIN into their recall system and it came back with nothing. That being said I'll probably call Customer service just to make sure they put my truck into their system, I have already updated the Toyota Owners site, I had a 4runner before this.

It's not a RECALL. Extended service campaign. Rinse road salt off undercarriage regularly and coat with Fluid Film every Fall.

I get that, the site specifically notes: "Lookup Safety Recalls & Service Campaigns" this is a service campaign isn't it?

I dont care if you get a letter or not. Do not let Toyota spray that crap on your truck. Once spring hits power wash the crap out of the underside and only fluid film or woolwax every year in the fall. The truck will die before the frame rots out. If you let Toyota crc the frame I guarantee you that a year or 2 after the extended warranty you will need a frame.
