Bilstein 6112

Yeah I agree. I have 6112/5160 combo and they don’t really seem to preform well even on washboard gravel roads.

They are great for what they are but you can’t beat Kings.

 

I don think it's what your looking for
Although great sand washes and such it's a good setup
But for pot holes, holes and dirt trail running you will need more, from my research
I still stuck at what to do. I want to buy and cry once!
Thinking of 8112's front and back with air bags...... But



As far as a brand
Bilstein has been at it a lot longer and it seems when your doing LT and spending 50k then kings is the way to go! so it's your preference. My 5100's have been great
So sticking with Bilstein

 

Don’t have complaints of the 8112s, even when I had 6112 I thought they did pretty damn well for the price. I was running 6112s and 8100 bypasses at one point and really I could have just stayed there but was more curious how 8112 would be. Obviously night and day difference. I think ADS would have been a good decision as well if not better.

Could you expand on this please? I bought the eibach 650 lb springs some time ago, but I dont have them on yet. After adding a Relentless slim-style bumper and a winch, I saw an immediate drop up front. Also have BAMF sliders on order(gonna be a while). Reading TW and other places, it seems fairly common to use the eibachs. Some even say that Bilstein uses eibach springs for their 6112 setups. I can't seem to find the Bilstein E4-FD1-Z562B00 on the web anywhere.

Okay I have found the direct bilstein upgrade. Any thoughts on using the eibachs instead?

There are only 2 different springs that Bilstein, themselves, only recommend to put in the 6112 setup that does not void the warranty. The E4-FD1-Z562B00 number is the clarification on the spring itself, but the stock number that you are looking for is the number (B12) 53-291387 spring. This is the 650lb spring that can only replace the 600 lb spring that originally comes with the 6112. Wheelersoffroad sells them separately I believe. Replacing it with an eibach 650 or 700lb spring will not only completely void the lifetime warranty but increases the likelihood for premature shock failure. You are correct that some bilstein shocks do use eibach springs in them but the 6112 springs were made by bilstein themselves. I have had the 600 spring and now I have the 650 lb spring in mine due to bumper, skid trio and unmounted winch.

 

Not recommended, people have done it, but the 6112 was made for specific springs in mind. You pay more for the quality ride, keep the quality there. If anyone wants to swap out different springs from different companies, they could have saved themselves a lot of money and get 5100's.

 

Yeah, I certainly believe that Bilstein recommends only their spring as a replacement, and have no doubt it would void the warranty, I'm just wondering if there is any real difference in the two springs. They weren't cheap-almost the same price as the Bilsteins-and look about the same although I dont have one in my hand to compare to the eibach. Thanks for your input.

 

I say use the eibachs, you already bought them. I had both 650 coils from bilstein and eibach next to each other and they looked the same. Currently have bilstein 650 coils on 8112s only because the system is so new I didn’t want to mess anything up, otherwise I would have slapped on eibachs.

Is there proof of premature shock failure with eibach 650 coils?

 

I don’t think anyone is saying they will fail, but if they do, you may be out of luck. If as you say they look the same as the Bilstien coils, why would you risk it?

 

Not with the 650lb coils no. With the 700lb coils yes. Some are putting the eibach 700lb coils in due tot he added weight and just because they fit, but I have seen a couple of different pictures and videos both on TW (and of course now I can't find them lol) and seen posts directly from bilstein on their site about the shock tophats fail prematurely because of the added stress. Now I do agree that the eibach 650lb spring should be more than ok, but I am just looking at it from a warranty point of view. If they had a 2 or 3 year warranty, hey no problem......but having the only "performance level shock" out there that has a limited lifetime warranty and doesn't need to be rebuilt after 2-3 years......why would I want to mess with that.

You already have the eibachs on hands, yea it would be nice to have bilsteins to “cover yourself” to me it ain’t worth the hassle to sell eibachs or return them then purchase bilstein coils. Plenty of people running eibach 650 coils, I had them for 18k miles with no issues on road and occasional offroad trips. Coils are coils imo....all the same made in China. Jk

Just upgraded to 6112s and 5160s and total chaos UCAs and for everyone that said the driver side upper through bolt was harder than the passenger side was wrong. Grab a pry bar and start pounding gents lol

 

Alright so I went ahead and ordered the Bilstein branded springs. Thats a good warranty i would hate to void(though im sure they could void it for many stupid reasons). Any interested in a set of eibach 650 lb. coils?
