it means there's literal tens of thousands of tacoma owners running E rated 10ply tires. If it was a significant issue/debate than you'd see more people talking about it. Yes the ride will be stiffer, but if you care that much it's probably best just to stay at a stock size on your truck. I have a 4cyl access cab and I'm on 10 ply tires. My truck is definitely lighter than yours and I've had no problems on or off road, and the sidewall has saved me from quite a few nails.

My point is, "no issues" is relative. I don't want a crappy ride as the majority of my driving is on road.

then get p rated 31s man, I don't consider my ride quality to be bad but if youre that worried you'll have to find a different size

In doing the poser "off-roady" look then that's the sacrifice you have to make

He's just saying there's nothing wrong with E rated Tires.

E rated are more durable, less resistant to puncture and sidewall failure. They handle airing down much better and obviously towing as well.

C Rated are slightly better for MPG...sometimes for comfort as well

The fact is when your tire gets bigger its good to have a thicker sidewall (that's why its hard to find C rated 33s). As tires get bigger the sidewall tends to get thicker.

You can get nitto terra grapplers in Load range D (8ply) but if I’m honest, my ridge grapplers ride better and they’re E rated.

    Stock as hell
Question: Has anyone run the Dick Cepek Extreme Country and the Cooper ST MAXX?

The DC's have a much lower weight, 49 lbs vs the ST's are at 59 pounds (Both 255/85/17)

Wondering why more people don't run the DC's, maybe I am missing something???

Trying to get taller tires, without the huge drop in MPG's... who cares about ride its a truck

I ran DCEC's on my old Frontier. Bought them because of the weight, they performed off road well but wore out pretty quickly and were replaced after 25k miles. Got ST Maxx on my Taco, so far so good but it's only been about 5k miles.

I don't NEED Kings, and neither do most people that buy them. I could have went the spacer route, the OME/5100 route, or any other cheaper alternative. I'm a gearhead of sorts, so first and foremost, I like and recognize quality. Second, as indicated by my quest for non-10 ply tires, I wanted to maintain some ride quality.

It seems the disconnect between you and I is your belief that Load E tires are necessary for any "real" off-roading, which I disagree with. In 80% of the off-roading this truck is built for, Load E tires are overkill.

My biggest reason I went E, was supply. I was worried if I ever punctured a tire I'd be out a week or two.

E is also nicer for deflating with offroading, stiff sidewalls mean less likely for beads to pop off.

C and D LT tires are hard to find for a reason. There's no demand.

I now have standard load AT3 4S and love the ride, but fear true offroading haha.

Sell the truck and buy an avalon.

I ran e rated 33s on my first gen for 10yrs in DD mode and it rode fine. Lower the air pressure to the low 30s and they ride like evrey other SUV or truck.

Perhaps. I just wanted to check with the interwebs before settling. It seems it has spoken.

Honestly I didn’t notice much difference between the P rated stock tires and the E rated 33s. If anything the larger tires handled the ride better by ignoring bumps the smaller tires couldn’t.

However I can attest that a 6-ply bias ply tire is the worst, but have been the best tire I have ran offroad

Switching to 17" wheels will give you what you desire.

Yeah...I'm considering it. I have TRD PRO wheels and like them, but I think I can sell them (tires included) and pay for the new wheels.

    Build thread coming soon.
I run about 250 miles a day on average in my taco, half of that is straight highway running. Ran 285/75/16 e range the whole time no ride quality suffrage, and when I spend most of the day off road I have the option of airing down further to enhance the ride and traction. Been on e range tires for 90k of the 107k that's on the truck and I'm not going back. Just take the plunge.
