Maybe you guys could help a brother out here.

I bought my first rifle and had put a Weaver Kaspa 3-9x40 scope on it, which I picked up used, from a friend. I was making adjustments to the elevation turret when it suddenly stopped clicking and started spinning free. Haven't had time to mess with it since the range, but will take a look at it after work.

Please tell me it ain't broke. Hoping I could fix it. My friend also offered to replace it if its fucked.

    Thanks, my bros!

maybe at the end of the adjustment, did you try turning it back the opposite way?

It spins free in either direction, never tightens.

Not sure exactly how they work but I'd think its either spun off the end internally or just broken. Ive never had one spin like you say. I have gone to the end of one side trying to get it sighted in but it clicked back down

Seems like it's gotta be internal. It's also not the greatest quality of a scope either, so there's that.

I doubt it. He offered to put a whole new scope on it if it is broken.

I’m not a scope smith, but all the parts of a scope are about the same. Most scopes have teeth in the internals of turret that make the clicking noise that follow a measured track that pushes said measurement down on the erector and it’s assembly. Assuming you don’t have the “tactical model” and forgot to tighten the scope turret back down, the others have a spine and grove the turret sits in. If it popped out of alignment then it can free spin. I see it a lot with the old guys beloved leupolds.
That’s assuming there’s not damage to that brass spine in addition. Probably best to move on from that scope. Cost more to fix it then replace it if it’s more than just an alignment issue. Or take the replacement that was offered.

Makes sense. I'll be home in a few hours to take a look at it. No biggie if it is shot.

    Thanks!

you’re scope might not look the same exactly, but here’s a inert of that the typical design and concept looks like. Might give you an idea if something is obviously out of place or what might not be mechanically working as it should.
