Is there a screen over the inlet for the gas, where the fuel nozzle fits in? I was getting gas today and noticed I could see quite a ways down the filler tube, and haven't ever noticed that before.

I was just wondering if there was a screen, and mine is gone, or if I just never noticed before!

Here is a picture I found online of the hole I'm talking about, it's not at the right angle to really see down, but I swear I remember seeing a screen there.

If someone could check for me that would be great. I have an 07 if that makes a difference!

I'm pretty sure there is a screen a ways down to prevent someone from stealing your gas.

yup to prevent fuel theft. At my gfs place a couple years ago there was a siphoner. Got in my truck one morning check engine light was on. Got out noticed fuel door was open cap off hose on the ground under the truck, but no missing fuel.

Thanks, I have never seen that.

Now, last July when I traded in my '06 in a spur of the moment buy I had a full tank of gas.

Picking up the '10 the next day I attempted to relieve the "old" Tacoma of its gas ..... (I know, I know ... .don't want to hear it ) and I could not get a hose too far down .... so I am going with the screen theory.

Your 2010 didn't come with a full tank of gas?

Thanks, but I'm not really worried about being more secure, I just wanted to know that if there was a screen, if it fell down into my tank or something. I'm not too worried about it doing much damage, but would like to know either way.

I asked my dealer about it on my '06 and was told they didn't come with one. Get a locking gas cap. Problem solved.

I may disagree with this (there's a surprise) .... I attempted to lower a very narrow hose into my filler tube of my '06 (before trading it in) and was stopped ... not by a bend in the pipe but an obstruction.

I have been wondering about this too. I could have swore before that there was a little medal flap\screen in the hole that would move like a little mini-door when you put the gas nozzle in.

Then at some point I noticed there wasn't anything there but a hole and have always thought to myself that there was something there before.

What is the deal here? Am I just remembering what my old 4-runner had or is it just a straight up hole with no flap?

Never really thought about this since I put a locking gas cap on but good to know there is secondary gas theft prevention device in place.......if the 05s even have it, lol.

I think if there was a screen close enough to the top that you could see it, it would prevent you from inserting the pump nozzle in all the way, and probably cause the gas (when filling) to bubble up out of the neck.
