I just moved and built a pergola looking hoist to remove my rack and tent as a unit, it’s only 4 screws and off it comes. This set up allows me to put on my rack in under 10 minutes and not bust a vertebrae to do it.

I got my RTT second hand but it came with anti condensation mat and its been pretty great!

I'm sure there are knock off/ other brands out there that would work. Not really a need but more of a want.

Bought a Smittybilt Overlander XL in the Spring and used it all Summer and Fall with no issues. Definitely worth it for the price, and has a ton of room inside it. Mounted it on KB Voodoo hi rise racks which worked great also. I have the long bed which fits this tent perfectly.rtt.jpg rtt2.jpg

@MonkeyProof Was it worth it??? I'm thinking of doing something similar to my mattress. Do you have any info on the foam you used? I've found that my back and bottom get cold and the mattress "bottoms out" at the point where the mattress folds in half, the weak point...

It was totally worth it. I got the cover at Ross for 30 bucks or so. There were quite a few to choose from and I chose the one of the lesser priced ones because I didn't know if my idea of stuffing foam topper inside the mattress cover would work.

Do note, that two foam mattresses don't like to slide across each other. In fact, they resist sliding against each other a great deal. I literally crawled inside the cover to help the process along and learned that my shorts don't slide well across foam mattresses either. I ended up being bare ass'd inside the mattress cover in the driveway.

Good to know! I guess I will crawl inside the mattress cover naked to avoid embarrassment... :D

Just bought a new smittybilt overland for $600, which I think is a good price? It will be going over the cab (over the bed wasn't going to be an option). Any tips/tricks/upgrades/must buys? We plan on doing mostly camping along the CA coast over the winter with it. Planning on a rubber mat/outdoor rug for the base of the ladder. It has an internal LED strip and a shoe bag, so think that's covered.

I'm hoping to add a RTT to the build this summer. I have pretty much narrowed my options down to a Tepui Kekenam ruggedized 3 person tent. It just seems to fit my needs the best. I was looking around for a deal, and saw a site that they sell demos and such on. Every single demo noted damage to the base from the ladder. Has anyone had any experience with this? I have no experience with a RTT, so if you use this model please give me some real world pros and cons. Also, wondering if the ruggedized is necessary. I do plan to so some 4 season camping in PA, but if i can save the price of a rack by going with a lower model I intend to. Thanks for any info.

also FYI, you can get Tepui from REI. So try to join there, and then get the tent during their 20% off sales? (PS I might be looking for snow next weekend or the following weekend, and thinking about coming up to PA. I can show my tent to you if you want )

I think the ruggedized has diamond plate floor. Not sure of the other options. I think @Mobtown Offroad or @HolyHandGrenade had the ruggedized model, but not sure which one..
Also, @Bruce988jl or @m603holden might have Tepui that they can give some suggestions

I made an account, but didn't see a link to any RTT on the REI site. Do you have to become a member to get the deals? Its $20 so no biggie if it means 20% off a 2000 tent. If you are looking for snow, look further north. I've been waiting for some to aid in the flintlock deer season. We might get some tomorrow, but with the ground so warm it won't stick. Nothing else forecasted for the next 10 days. East in the mountains you may have better luck. It would honestly depend on the distance. I live in the NW corner of pa away from most other members. It is the last few weeks of deer season, so my extra time is spent doing that. Mid January my schedule opens up a little more and I intend to spend more time around the garage and hopefully attending to minor truck stuff. Thanks for tagging those guys, maybe they will add their experiences.

I picked up the XL this past fall, I added a 1" egg crate foam topper to it to add a bit of softness. Mattress is a bit firm for my liking. Also make sure you break in the material (it tells you how at the end of the instructions when putting rails on and stuff.

I also picked up some seam sealer and tent water-proofing spray that I added after breaking in the material. They point out that you may want to add both these after breaking in the material. Other than that these are solid great tents. Great price by the way you got a deal!

Yup. The bottom does get dinged up. Hindsight being 20-20 I wish i just bought a few sections of diamond plate and jb welded them to the areas where the ladder hits. Would have done the trick.
