Exactly!! Buy what makes you happy! Drive what makes you happy! But coming in a Tacoma enthusiasts website day after day just to justify yourself buying the wrong truck to those who bought the right one is just bonkers! I personally love my truck I love how the A/T shifts and drives it fits my life perfect and I look at my vehicle everyday some times multiple times so should I like how it looks yes looks are important to me and I don’t think there is a nicer looking truck on the planet which is only my opinion but I’m also paying my bills so makes sense!

Why would a brand new truck that’s “selling and breaking records” be already discounting almost $10k? Something isn’t making sense here!

All makes except Toyota do this for end of year. The same reason Apple never discounts there stuff in store either and pay a premium for.

    I like my Tacoma.
Know a guy at work who really likes his Ranger.

Doesn’t mean I care as much to post about it. Better sales just means there will be more of them available on the used market, likely decreasing the resale.

so I’d rather see the Tacoma at the bottom of the list, then once 3rd gens are hitting 200k+ miles people will be flocking toward them for the reliability and I’ll be able to make a decent amount back once it’s time to let it go.

I saw a new Ranger yesterday that belonged to the local electric company. They have always purchased vehicles from the big three, needless to say I wasn't shocked to see this.

I will always be on this form cause I love Toyota’s. Will I stop buying them in the future cause I got burned from the 3rd gen and Tundra craping out on me?? No. I’m simply commenting on my brief experience with the Ranger which this topic was about. There are people who want nothing to do but crap on you because you drive something other then Toyota on this form. Which is understandable since this is a Toyota form but at the same time it’s good to get user experiences instead of making general assumptions which most do. Do Fords have a spotty record of course but have also made some super reliable engines. It’s okay to still love Toyota but want to venture out and see what else is out there. If nothing else competition will make Toyota be more competitive like finally offering 0% financing on the Tacoma like they did two years ago which they never do. I personally can’t wait to see the new Tundra and eventually 4th gen Tacoma. Also, I’ve been enjoying the Ranger form too. Very informative just like TW has been.

A new clean-sheet Ranger is on the horizon....it was always on the horizon - even when the current (sh)iteration hit the market.

If they deliver what they have been hinting at, it will give the Tacoma a serious run for its money. It would not surprise me to see it eventually topple the Tacoma unless Toyota makes some changes.

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
Really like my Tacoma but for new you are looking at close to 50G in Canada.
I think the Ranger that Icon built looks pretty good and if they are 5 to 7 grand cheaper could attract buyers.

Canadian money is behind the dollar by a bit so 50 Canadian is 35-38 USD.

We just bought some additional light duty 1/2 tons. I don't know the exact number added to the fleet but we got Ram 1500 QC 4x4s with the BigHorn Package and the 5.7 Hemi for $34K each.

Our strippy 3/4T Cummins Tradesmen are running us $44-45K.

When we were looking at F150s, they were within spitting distance of the Ram 1500s.

    Seems unlikely.

Tacoma's reputation for reliability and longevity is exactly why it's so popular and sells so well. Ford simply can't compete, or are uninterested in competing at this level (probably because it's very expensive and requires a lot of effort to do so). Ford instead will try and woo buyers with relatively cheap and low risk things like horsepower numbers, fuel economy, and throwing in unnecessary gadgets, and these may be enough to convince some to try the Ranger.

IMO, the only way Ford will take down the Tacoma is if they get serious in the following areas: 1) Reliability (design should emphasize being overbuilt/understressed), 2) Longevity (Tacomas have been known to go over well over half a million miles on the original engine and transmission), 3) Build quality, 4) Interior design and aesthetics (Ford absolutely sucks in this department, and they always have).

But Ryan, that's Ford's formula as well. They have dominated the full size truck market with questionable reliability, middling longevity, etc.

Look how many people we have on this forum saying they will jump ship if Ford offers the real Ranger with a 2.7EB and the new design. Look how many forums members we have whacking off to the Raptor. If Ford delivers on producing a Ranger equivalent of the F150, it will be a hit.

It's entirely possible I am overestimating the number of people who have standards :D

However, I would say the markets for the F-150 and Tacoma are different... F-150 attracts more fleet buyers and those needing raw truck capabilities (towing, payload, power). Tacoma attracts weekend warriors, instagramming overlanders, and retired old farts. I think buyers for Tacoma are less concerned with specs on paper and more concerned with looks, feel, quality, value.

Ford dominated the small truck segment with the Ranger back in the 80's, the market today is different but they have potential if they do a good job on the next Generation

I do hope it turns out well. It's always good to have more options on the market.

Just wish domestic automakers would get serious about quality for a change.
