    EB vs Patagonia.
I was going to say the warranty. Patagonia is awesome warranty.

But, EB says you do not like it, bring it back for replacement. Does not say a time limit.

There’s an ArcTeryx store in Colorado Springs. If you ever pass there, GO. It’s an outlet and they have 1st quality, Seconds, and they’re overruns stocked. I’ve also seen their military overruns in stock. Major discounts at this particular store. Got a Gore Beta AR for under $100. 1st qual.

Ended up just ordering an R1 found one for 30% which brought the price down to reasonable. Figured EB stuff is pretty much always on sale so I can grab one later to compare.

Well that pretty much justifies a extra $50.

I received the one made by Tusita. Easy to put on.
    Thanks,
    Ken

BTW, the protective 'wrap' on my GPSMap60CSX fits the Explorer+. :) So, when I sell it, I will keep that.

Anyone with real world experience with the Hyperlite Southwest pack series? Looking at the 4400 with the sale price but wanted to ask before dipping into my wallet. I don’t need a million pockets and five pounds of straps.

Two week hiking trips, some alpine use, and hiking with scouts where I always bring extra kit for the “I forgot to pack it” scenarios that always appear with kids.

Every single thru hiker I've run into on the AZT that has one absolutely loves them. I like that the top rolls down if your going out for a short trip to make the bag more compact. Quality seems really good as thru hikers are typically not easy on gear. Biggest knock is expect the white to get dirty really really fast. I've been interested in one since I learned about them this spring incredibly popular with the thru hiking crowd. There's a 3rd hyperlite in this group not pictured.

They make an alpine pack now to if you need stuff like crampon and ice axe attachments

Been prowling their website and studying all the rucks. On somewhat of a budget as we all are and hoping to grab a ruck and some of their sacks in a genuine effort to start shaving off of my big three.

Thanks for the insight, I’m actually looking at the black one in the hopes that it won’t look terrible straight away. The roll top and no need for a rainfly really has my attention.

I've been using the SW for 3 years, It's become my favorite. I added a shoulder pocket for notebook and phone or gps but otherwise only an occasional added strap for a winter pad. mostly 4-6 day trips from 8,000 to 14,000'

    4 run, 2 don't
I've got an R1 that I absolutely love and have taken with me during the winter months in Oregon, but for me, the hood leaves little to be desired.

I paired it with the Patagonia folding jacket (forget the model) and it's a match made in heaven -

    Resized_20191127_103140.jpg

The R1 will warm you up, and the waterproof/windproof jacket will work to prevent body heat from escaping. Perfect for around base camp when it's cold out but when you're not really moving around much as you'll stay pretty toasty and dry while keeping things ultra light.

I've used the combination to hike with when I was backpacking in Oregon early this year around January. It rained like a mother. ..

I picked it up and wore it to go shooting earlier. Really glad I went with it. It is as warm or warmer than some of my much heavier fleece. I still might try one of those EB ones at $50 if nothing else just something to wear camping in spring/fall

Thanks mate, the more I learn about them the more I’m liking them. Do you ever carry additional weight and how does it do with it? Thinking a couple ropes and a rack.

I volunteer as a Wilderness Info. Specialist in the Summer, primarily in the Weminuche Wild., so I'm carrying my ultralight gear plus a uniform shirt and an oversized f.a. kit. Sometimes I'll carry a 8mm ski rope, crampons and an ice axe. Probably never exceeded 30-33 lbs.

I use a BD Spot 325 and older Spot 300. Both have been fantastic. I hear good things about the Biolight 330 but don't have personal experience.

just went on sale on Amazon for $63 normally 90.

rechargable, 2300 lumens on turbo mode, low mode battery lasts 40hrs, moonlight mode (works good in pitch black) lasts for 45 days. Haven’t tried the 45 days but this light is insanely bright. Turbo mode makes my eyes hurt in the dark just looking at landscape
