Why thank you kindly belated birthday boy! I think we can all say the same about yours. Need to get a camping trip on the books after the new year so I can get in a couple sneaky River pets lol

 

Thanks! A few more trips and I hope you won't have to be sneaky. She even let a few people touch her on the rescue mission last weekend.

 

Did you recently rescue a dog? I'm guessing that's what you're talking about

 

And she had some play time with Sadie.

 

Not recently, but she is a rescue and not super social. She loves being out with people and other dogs, but she's not really sure how to deal with attention from people.

We rescued our dog about 3 months ago now and he wasn't the most social by any means. He had really bad anxiety, wasn't friendly with other dogs, and would basically lose any attention span he had once we walked outside of our home. @TOP TACO and @2BeersPlease can attest to the unfriendly-ness and anxiety from our last camping trip.

But we have since sent him to a "boot camp" for 3 weeks where they trained him and essentially taught him how to be a dog again. Before doing this, we did reactive dog training classes, read a ton, and watched plenty of videos on the subject - none of which offered much improvement. The trainer we sent him to sent us a video the first night of having him and she already made more progress than my girlfriend and I had. He will play with other dogs and has off-leash as well as obedience training. It basically lifted a huge amount of stress off our shoulders since we don't have to worry about him reacting negatively to anything or anyone anymore.

Keep in mind we have both trained multiple dogs before - but they were puppies and this was not (~2 year old German Shorthaired Pointer with rather long hair). It was obvious he had been beaten before (by a male, he would hide if I picked anything up) and he wasn't well socialized in his former life.

The trainer does all sorts of different training programs from other dogs and I'm happy to give you more information if you're interested. For us, it's made our lives so much less stressful and it's good to see him with less anxiety and actually enjoying himself.
