Hey, I am new to the site and have a new 08 access cab. I was wondering if anyone is experiencing any rattle / knocking sounds when driving of road, not gnarly wheelin, just bumpy dirt roads. Thanks for any help!

no, mine seems quiet when offroad unless its something i have loaded in the truck like tools or my hi-lift or the shackles on my bumper..... or except for my rear shocks topping out once in a while with a solid BAM! lol, not too good but they're supposed to be long enough. where does the noise seem to be coming from and can you give a better description of it?

Is it the passenger seatbelt? Both passenger and drivers side will rattle in mine.

Mine rattles a bit. But I think I might have caused them with some hard landings.

Its hard to say where it's coming from. It seems to be coming from the drive train, trani, front drive line... not sure. It happens when in gear and especially out of gear. Strangely enough it doesn't seem to do it when climbing up steep hills under load. It does it in 2wd and 4hi and 4lo. It sounds like something is loose (duh) but the dealer can't find it and says its normal. I am curious to see if any others have the same prob!
    thanks

I have an 08 TRD Sport Access cab automatic that I got in July. I hear this rattling noise on the passenger side sometimes and the noise sounds like the antennae hit something. I checked it and nothing seems to be loose. It usually happens when I'm slowing down. I only drive on the street and haven't hit anything hard. And the truck is 100% stock.

Normal for the 6spd, although it's VERY annoying and embarrasing if your in parking lot and hit a speed bump. Like you said, it's a lot worse when in neutral.

really? mine doesnt make a sound.....(except for the regular engine tick and a leaf spring creak from mud in between them:eek:). i dont see how this can be passed as normal. im totally anal about random noises that arent supposed to be there and if the dealer said it was normal to me i would be pushing them until they find it!

    hey AaronK,
Any clue as to what is making the noise?! have you had any luck with your dealer, if you have the same issue? I recently drove an 09 trd sport 6spd and it didnt make the same noise. I live in the snow and this is gonna drive me nuts this winter. Anyone have any ideas where it is coming from?

maybe somthing in the glovebox:rolleyes: j/k....
ok, i have one more guess without me actually being in the truck: the intake tube rattling against the fender. There is a TSB on this and it fixed my truck with their new tube. mine did it when it was cold out and i'd back up or when the truck was started, but on deceleration it may do it too i guess.
to see if this is your problem, you can unbolt the tube from the fender (2 bolts) and loosen it where it clamps to the filter housing and pull it off. might take 5 minutes, a ratchet with an extension and a large philips screwdriver. now go drive it where or how you would when you get the rattle, just stay out of large puddles.

I have this rattle too!!!..Very noticable when out of gear and very annoying! They don't seem to be building them like they used to. Read somewhere, maybe on TN where someone thought it was the steering box? and how it was connected to the truck for safety in a head on crash? Hmmm. This seems to be a common annoyance. Anyone had a Dealer give them their 2 cents? My truck is going in on the 4th...I'll see what they say!

From what I've read so far, this seems to be "normal" for a six spd!

I also have this sound... It literally sounds like the transmission is gonna fall out on a really rough road. Ultra ultra annoying, but I guess I'll have to learn to live with it. If I didn't like the looks of this truck so much, I would trade it in just to get rid of the little annoyances!

Mine rattled. Turned out to be the leaf springs. The dealer also replaced the shocks and after contacting the tech guy via e-mail he replaced the rear shocks with a heavier duty ones.
No rattle anymore. I also spra the leafs every so often with wd 40 an it helps a big time.

I doubt this rattle is the leaf springs. I have had the rear spring TSB done and have 5100's all the way around. The rattle is still there. Took it in today to dealership. They didn't seem to think there was a problem...but are going to keep the file open? hmmm! On the upside, they found that my left front tire TPM Sensor was not working and ordered me a new one. I guess I need to take a new one out for a drive and see if it has the "rattle". or just keep at them weekly... til they find a solution!!
