I traded in my 17 TRD sport for a 18 TRD offroad back in August and one thing I notice was the previous owner installed a system e.g. amp, subwoofer, etc. I notice that the owner did a shitty job and I Had them fix the issue. Apparently, Left sound will come from right and vise versa. I turn off the AC and the radio cuts off; turn on the AC...radio power ups. Yeah shit was bad but it was fix.

It works perfectly now, but since I upgraded my tweeters to the Subaru tweeters, I might as well do the door speakers. Been reading as much as I can on here, but need some pointers.

Here is my issue. I'm a noob to audio and not sure if these speakers are OEM and the wooden housing is stock (doubt them both)? I try searching Google and this forum, but cant seem to find which ones are the stock speakers. Not sure if I should replace these with Kickers CS or keep them?

    Any advice would help. Thanks

I strongly believe that the precision power speaker is not an oem. Usually they are low quality, paper cone garbage.

yes the bottom speaker is the stock one.

Precision power is not a bad brand, its not a well known brand but its not bad. These are coaxial speakers. I have a sound processor from them and its the tits!

The wood behind the speakers are adapters (some terrible ones...), but there are 2 boards so i would think that was needed for extra mounting depth...

edit... these are $50 on sonicelectronix.com

    Thanks

I also notice the speakers are just connected to the wires and not an adapter. I guess if I was to install new speakers I could just wire them onto the new speakers.

I could probably do away the wooden housing.

The wooden adapters are ok but they should be taken out and painted to protect them from moisture.

Double check the connections where the new speaker wires connect to the OE wiring harness. If the previous owner did such a terrible job on the other parts of the system, you could have a problem there too. If the OE harness connectors are still there (not cut off), you can purchase harness adapters for relatively cheap.

The wooden pieces serve two functions. 1 - to adapt the mounting surfaces from the old speakers mounting pattern to the new speaker mounting pattern. 2 - to make sure that the new speaker will clear the inner workings of the door (glass). Sooo, Clean and address the issues with the wood OR purchase aftermarket adapters.

If your considering changing out the door speakers AND up-grading the tweets, you should definitely take a look at a pair of component speakers for the fronts (door and dash). The wiring is only just a little bit more involved. But can be simplified with aftermarket harness adapter too.

Yeah most people use female spade terminals to attach to the speakers. They way they hooked those speakers up is terrible!

Yes for sure protect them! but i really wouldnt call them adapters since there are wood screws in the sheet metal nowhere near the OEM mounting location... just noticed that.

Yes this is a good point... probably a good idea to check all the connections. Behind the head unit, ground points, and amp...

As far as speaker upgrades... i suggest polk audio silk dome tweeters, i recently put them in my truck and they are much better than what came with my component set.

Thanks yall. I have some kickers CS laying around and wanted to install those since they are still BNIB.

I went ahead and check the wires as best as possible and fixing anything that needs to be dont better.

I manage to install the front door speakers and removed the wooden housing. New speakers sound much better. Just need to do the rears now.

First time doing this and honestly it's not that hard.
