I’ve got a smittybilt compressor for my truck and turns out it doesn’t fit where abs would be. Any idea where I could squeeze it in at? Curious on your spots in the 1st gen.

All depends on where you have space. I ended up having to cut up my grill to mount my winch because I couldn't figure out a decent place to relocate the control box under the hood that didn't require an elaborate bracket/mounting system. And I don't even have a bunch of "extras" under there. I just relocated my washer fluid reservoir:

Are you going for a full on board air system with a tank and all that? Or just a compressor?

I've seen several people mount them in boxes under the bed (incl the tank) where the spare tire goes, but of course then you need to move that somewhere. Other people have done like an ammo can or one of those hard mounted toolboxes back there in the bed.

But likely it's just going to need to be a custom bracket that mounts wherever there's space.

I actually don't like the engine bay for a compressor mount anyway. Engines are hot, and air compressors get hot too.

Just a compressor. No tank. I’m not mechanically inclines enough to move stuff around under my hood. Maybe I can make it squeeze in where abs would be.

also, only thing about putting it in the back is the extended wiring I would need to run through the truck.

Looks like you have a TON of room where your abs is. Mine seems to be significantly less room there.

    True.

But it's either a bunch of wiring (really not that much, honestly), or a bunch of fabricating for a bracket. It's kind of a wash, work wise, IMO.

I dunno, I would figure out what would be most convenient, then take the time to make it right.

I've seen some cool setups with a toolbox in the bed, and it has an external air chuck on both sides so you don't have a mile of air hose going all the way around the truck.

Well, there's airspace around it, but there isn't a convenient place to mount anything unless I made a bracket that stuck way out. And then you're getting pretty close to the exhaust, too.

I just did the same exact thing, I was not expecting it to be that large. I ended up stripping off the handle, base and end cap that houses the breaker, relay and switch to make it smaller. It still didn’t fit, so I plan to make a mount and splash gaurd to mount it underneath the bed along with a pressure switch and air tank.

Man these things are massive! Thought it would be much smaller. I’m gonna get into it tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I’ll let you know!

After moving my cruise control and igniter, I found a spot for it to fit. All I need to do is figure out how to mount it now.

Make it plug and play will you be using this a few times a day??

Why does it need a hard mount put it behind the passenger seat pull it out when needed .

Simple to find a male and female plug that will handle the current draw circuit protection as needed .

    Just a thought !

Years ago I had a friend that wanted one mounted on the right floor since no one ever rode in that side.

Was just thinking this last night. Doing all this shit under the hood just to air up and down when I could just carry it with me. But then I started realizing “well what if someone does ride? Or what if I need the spot I put it for something else?”

Made sense to me to at least try to put it somewhere out of the way, and if it doesn’t fit anywhere, just carry it in the truck.

Be creative and make it fit.
Here is where I put the ARB twin...

The ARB air hose is long enough to reach all of my tires. I installed the air chuck here:

For any of you who have mounted the smittybilt, how bad are the vibrations? I'm thinking of putting it behind the seats, but I'm trying to think how I might mount it without a large bracket that might end up vibrating and rattling it's way out.

Could always mount it under the truck. When I had air ride on my old GTI, I mounted the compressor behind the bumper. Just got to keep it protected

I want to try to keep it inside since I live in the snow. The underside of the truck gets really nasty, so I'm trying to keep it behind the rear seats. I think I will be trying to fit the air tank somewhere similar to where you mentioned though.
