Back seat of crew cab big enough for booster seat? Comfortably??

Hey every body was reading a few posts about people having boosters in the back of their rides and was wondering if they make it work without sacrificing their own leg room up front or setting their seat to uncomfortable position. Anyone with this set up please let me know your thoughts!

 

I've run carseats, front and rear facing, and boosters. It's a bit tight but very doable. I recommend something to cover the back of your front seats because the kids will definitely put their feet on them

 

For us, all I'll say is I'm lucky my wife is 4'11" because the car seat goes behind her and her seat is pretty far forward.

If you don't have one yet bring your car seat to a dealer and test it out.

 

Welcome. How tall are you? Taller than about 5’8” and I think the seat may be too far back in the double cab. That said, I have a peg perego 5-75 (forward facing) for my three year old behind the passenger- it’s a decent sized seat- and a graco convertible high back/seat only booster (in high back mode) behind my for my 6 year old. He’s definitely ready to come out of the high back, but doesn’t complain and he’s the car sleeper, so it holds his head up. I found the seat only requires diligence in ensuring the seatbelt is put on correctly. I’ll keep them both in the seats as long as they’re comfortable, but anticipate a change soon.

 

My 3yr old is in a car seat behind drivers seat. To be honest I set it up this way mainly because the the storage behind the rear passenger seat has more storage.

Her feet touch the back of the drivers seat but not too bad. I would guess that a booster seat would be a bit better.

Man I cant wait till shes out of a car seat. Such a pain.

 

Thanks for reply! I am 5'10" and my wife about 5'4" so I'm hoping we won't have to sacrifice too much comfort to fit them in. That being said, we would take her CRV for most of the time but in the future would like to take the boys camping, hiking, etc so wondering about comfort for long trips if its manageable.

 

I'm 5'11" and my wife is 5'3". My 3 year old sits behind me on the driver's side in a front facing Chicco Nextfit seat, my 5 1/2 year old sits behind my wife in a Chicco booster seat. There is enough leg room for me to drive, her to be comfortable, and the kids have leg room.

 

It is manageable. I’m 6’ and we have two kids. A booster certainly is easier than a car seat/convertible. On longer trips over 3-4 hours, you definitely want to get out and stretch your legs some. But again, it’s doable.

My wife has a CRV too. It definitely has more room, but I always take my truck for similar reasons. It was a Colorado before this one, and had very similar rear seat space. The seats take up a lot of interior space, I just have to be careful about what goes in the back. I just keep an umbrella, ice scraper, glass cleaner, leather wipes, and paper towels on the floor and a blanket on the middle seat. It gets dicey for certain things like a cooler or bag of food for the road, but it gets done- remember you’re supposed to enjoy the truck and use it to take the family places.

Them? No, it is time for a new truck. It would be cramped enough with 1, but 2 no way. You might fit in there, but you will have no room for all the other crap you need. Do yourself a favor and get something family sized now.

 

Im 6'2 215(not a small guy) and i have a 3 year old who is very tall for her age in a forward facing car seat behind the passenger seat. With the passenger seat in my double cab adjusted to fit my 5'9 girl friend my daughters feet just touch the back of the passenger seat.

Very doable in my opinion.
Not ideal.
But doable.

 

Thank you for response! I'd like to avoid full size, if at all, possible. For one, the cost is prohibitive, no manual tranny option, decreased maneuverability, off road ability, mpg drop, etc. Personally it will be my commuter, so while the kids are in the huge car seats it will be a rarity to have to put them in the truck. However, they wont be in there forever and after they grow up I'll still have the truck, so wanting to stick to taco. Mainly made post about booster as they'll be in booster much longer, and that is when I would like to start taking them places. Camping with a 2 year old is not the plan lol

 

I have a Access cab and my granddaughter fits fine in a booster seat on passenger side, I am 6' and wife is 5'4"and have enough room.

i got two kids in my truck its not terrible. 1 is rear the other is forward.

once the rear one goes forward will be even better.

 

That's my exact situation man gotta 1 year old facing front and 1 month old facing rear. I appreciate the post and God bless!

 

Ill agree with what you said here except the MPG drop. Going to a full size will see you GAIN MPG if you buy the right one.. 3.5 ford ecoboost destroyed my trd sport manual in mpg department. Buy alot... but it was a ford lol

 

well its possible but you might have to get new carseats.
I bought graco slimfits and they work good. Im 5 '9 and my wife 5 '4.
Its definitely tight but it works.

i put a tonneau cover so most of the kid stuff goes in the back.


once they are in boosters will be be easy peezy.

3 carseats would not be possible if youre planning on a third. youd need 1 or both in boosters already.

 

I hope its big enough... One of the reasons my fiance was cool with me getting the Taco was because of the 2nd row of seats...
