Kalifornia defining you as an employee soon?

Definition of a independent contractor is changing in our lovely state. Truckers, hairdressers, Uber types, authors. I know some tech people do contractual work also. Wonder what individuals need to do to define themselves as a business or able to enter into a contract? Guess the state is finally getting sued over this law to take effect in 2020. Book publishers are suing over the law. Wonder how authors can determine what their hourly wage for writing would be? Discrimination in pay for unproved writers vs well known writers?

Making you an employee changes a lot of things. The biggest will be the size of the workforce.

 

I used to do tech contracting, but have been an employee of the company that pays me for just over 8 years now. I feel for all those that will be impacted; that is all I have to say.

 

California laws in general are comical. Bunch of clowns

 

could be worse. could be unemployed and/or homeless.

if you ever used Amazon fulfillment delivery, you contributed to the reason for this change.

 

Reading the summary, it’s not much different than the IRS laws for what constitutes full time employment. As an employer, I give you a requirement and delivery date. You decide the rest-contract. If I tell you how to do it, when to come to work, etc.-employee.

They're doing it as a cash grab. You won't be able to deduct crap so they need you to pay more so they can redistribute it to illegals, drug addicts, homeless people and current and retired government workers and their pensions

 

I worked under the table over 30 years ago for a sign maker, doing anything around his house and even business related, needed the full paycheck at the time, nothing else available for me then. Desperate times..................
