I paid 10k out the door from a dealer for my 5 lug. IDK if i'd pay over 8k for a truck I'll need to fix and put money into after purchase. My frames scotch free from rust, no leaks, 94k miles at time of purchase, all servicing done at 2k intervals at Toyota dealer from PO. Gotta choose whether u need the truck RN, or if u can wait for better deal. If u have a DD I'd wait for the next unless u want the extra work

You’re not gonna find a truck with that mileage and needs nothing for $7500.

I wouldn’t say it’s been meticulously cared for but I wouldn’t go as far to say it looks like a beaten dog lol.

Looks like the link does not work anymore (at least for me). Is it gone?

@Rock Lobster I haven’t seen it in person but don’t think it’s been beaten like a dog or at least compared to my current Tacoma. That frame looks pretty damn good to me. I uploaded a pic of the leaf spring mount. What about the undercarriage looks uncared for? Also I’ll check out the paint in person. I did notice the paint peeling right under the window on the passenger side. The chrome part. I’d say it was an inside dog that was sometimes left outside overnight. I’ll check if the clear coat is peeling anywhere.

I am in a bit of a time crunch moving in the first week of January to Montana from Texas. Would like to find something more reliable than what I have now.

Looks like they took the link down. I put a $250 deposit down.
I uploaded a few more pictures.

    Engine sounds good no ticks.

if ur on a time crunch then go ahead and get it. My last truck was a 1997 ram that I put a quart of oil in it every 3-4 weeks. Ran that ting like hell for 8 years and didn't skip a beat. Leaks can always be fixed later. Long as engine and tranny are solid, and there's no bad rust then it should be gtg for you man

Edit: you'll have a couple of weeks to thoroughly inspect it and drive it for those weeks till any big trips like u said in January as well

Any tips on how to check for rust on the frame? Didn’t find much on my quick google search.

That what I was thinking. As long as the oil isn’t low then no real damage has been done to the trans or transfer case.

I’ll do the standard stuff like swap out fluids and oils plus anything that needs to be taken care of right away.

My old ram had surface rust on it when I bought it. Seen some crusty rigs around here but I won't bother to ask if they are native. If u go up north 2-3 hours from where I'm at u get into snow, and with snow comes salting. Only if u are in phoenix or below it shouldn't be a worry. BUT I still go up north often and out that way, haven't put the truck thru any snow or salt yet

At the end of the day if you're happy with it that's all that matters.

I might or might not have beaten the living snot out of vehicles I have owned in my younger days, and after thoroughly cleaning them before putting them up for sale, they might have looked an awful like this truck.

But then again, I'm just judging off a picture, and that means absolutely diddly squat. :D seeing it in person and deciding if it's the right purchase for you is what really counts.

should be gtg then, who knows maybe some leaks will resolve when u put good fluids in them. Shit can happen lol. I ran thicker oil in the ram which slowed the leak at least

The areas that seem to rust first on the frames are the rear shock mounts, leaf spring mounts, and the chunk of the frame just above the rear wheels. Based on the picture you posted I'd say the frame looks very good. Just give the frame a quick rap with your knuckles or a tool, thin rusty metal will have a different sound.

Yup, it still happens everywhere. Places may be lower risk, but in the end everywhere is a risk for rust

That’s funny, when I got rid of my 02 with 425k it didn’t have single oil leak anywhere.

That’s odd, I was wondering about the rear suspension. Couldn’t tell how he lifted it, guess he didn’t. Maybe the front bilsteins are on the lowest setting and it leveled out. Not sure what size the tires are.

I actually have my old suspension from my 15 Tacoma sport. Been wondering if that would work.

It should be nearing its 2nd timing belt, so if you aren't sure, 99% it needs a new one anyway. That's certainly something to negotiate with.

I would say $8200 is pretty fair IF it didn't have a trans leak and an unknown timing belt.

My guess is you've got at least a grand in labor to address the the leaks and the TB. Offer then $7k maybe.

@4XMountains Did they provide a Carfax? Honestly it’s whatever you feel comfortable spending on it after test driving it and etc. It might not be worth quite as much as they’re asking but i wouldn’t say it’s a terrible deal. You’re basically getting for like $7700 + TTL, I look on CL pretty frequently and that’s the lowest mile one ive seen in awhile that’s 4x4 TRD and 5 speed.

There are always going to be better deals, but you’re wanting something within the next few weeks so I’d say it’s a good option.
