That's nice. I'm guessing you don' live somewhere that has actual snow, road salt and sub freezing temps. Not too many people dragging out the hose around here this time of year.

Mine came flying out of the groove when it was really windy out and I was driving down the highway. Had to pull over and snap it back into place

The car wash I go to , the brushes are constantly being flushed with pressurized water to rinse them clean between cars running thru the tunnel

yeah those rubber things come off pretty easily. i make a point to check them once every other week and just run my hand along the middle to make sure they're pressed it in firm.

as for the car wash debate, i've taken it through a brushed car wash but only touchless these days because of my accessories. i don't care about my paint condition because i park outside and it takes a bigger pounding from that than some soft brushes.

pressurized RECYCLED water don't forget. We ain't talking about food grades either here. Small sands are getting by.

edit: I know the road is full too, just being clear.

Fine yes, but I still wouldnt take my truck through one, harsh chemicals with touch or touchless neither are ideal but the idea of rubbing dirty brushes (I extremely doubt they are cleaned often) will do far more damage to your paint / clearcoat. Ideal will always be a good handwash, but not feasible here in the midwest so push comes to shove I'll do the quarters at the self serve, water only or a touchless if im lazy and desperate.

Yep, and this problem is not unique to Tacoma or even Toyota. Just pop it back into place.

All you do is take your vehicle to a car wash with self service booths and wands.
Use only water (unless you trust their soaps to be pH balanced) and thoroughly rinse the truck and underside regularly.

No need for soaps or drying. Dirt does not harm a paint job. Salt does and its easy to wash it off without the need for a complete wash.

Autowashes are hell on a paint job and your finishes.

My local detailer charges $35 for an indoor handwash too, which is more than reasonable for that service.

No one can go to an autowash and bitch about damage to their vehicle. You are paying them to damage your vehicle.

I think its also worth noting autowashes rarely use pH balanced products, so their soaps strip waxes and other protective coatings off your paint which further exposes them to rust from salt. So if the goal is rust avoidance we can’t promote washes with counterproductive products.

Mine went missing on my 2016 about a year after I got it. No idea where, did not happen in car wash. I complained to the dealer and they popped a new one in no questions asked.

The little rubber strips that cover the drain gutters on your roof about 4 inches in from the doors. The front is literally held in by 2 plastic clips. This happens all the time.

Are you talking about the rubber cover for the roof rack?

There was a thread on here a few years ago where the car wash caved the side of of some guys truck bed. I recall him fighting with the car wash to pay even though it was on camera before it went in.

I use the drive thru car washes all the time. The paint seems to love it. I've never found a touchless one that would do a good job. All decent car washes have cameras inside. They'll show you your car from start to finish.

wow taking a truck through a car wash seems to evoke passion about paint care....lol guessing all you hand wash people don't go off road either, might get some sand or dirt on that bad boy. I digress …. my 18 rubber roof channel piece flaps off every 10th auto car wash and easily pops back in. Hope it doesn't effect my re-sale value. :(
