5100's @ 2.5 vs Eibach & 5100's @ .85/TSB w/ 1.5 AAL for TSB vs. Dakar Leaf Pack

How long have you had the TSB leaf springs for? I know they are 3/8" thick, and after settling add about 1/5" of lift or so. If you got the 1.5" TSB AAL and the 5100's at 0.85 with the eibach spring you would end up like my truck. I will take pics for you tonight and try to add them to you to see if it is what you want. Before my AAL and 5100's in the back I would have my trailer with two bikes on it, and some gear and my truck would sit level. I think now with the trailer/ gear/ luggage etc... I would still have a bit of rake

 

I have had the TSB leaf springs for about a month or so. I wonder if mine being a long bed puts the weight back further, therefore increasing the load on the leaf springs and decreasing the rake....

My advice is - don't mess with your truck right now. Your wife will kill you if you're wrenching on your truck when you're supposed to be taking care of her.

Plenty of time for tinkering later.

 

Haha...yeah I hear ya. She doesn't care now, but I'm sure that will all soon change!

 

I would say tinker now...pretty soon you will be changing diapers and soothing a crying baby. Spare time will be a thing of the past IME.

 

I would agree if you were 100% confident to get the job completed with no problems ahead of time.

But the worst is to get the job half done - or completed, but with some poorly understood problem that leaves the thing undriveable, so that you're still working on it after. Now you don't have a working truck, AND no time to fix it either.

My own kids are now old enough that I can draft them to help me out with parts of the job - especially the one who has his learner's permit.

 

Mine took me two days to do in my garage all by myself with hand tools...and I was really taking my time. I think if you got up early to do it, and had a buddy helping you could easily get it done in one day. I have a lot of experiance working on my dirt bikes, but not a lot on vehicles, and I did pretty well if I have to say so myself. I would spray down all the bolts with WD-40 or something similar the day before to ensure it all comes apart easy.

 

I've got eibachs, 5100's at o.85", a 1/2" top plate on driver's side, and a 1/4" top plate on passenger's side.

 

I looked through your pics...your truck looks great man!!! Exactly what I want to do! Is that leaf pack the one that lowers your bed capacity or is it similar to the Toytec 1.5 AAl?

 

Thanks for the compliment. I have the Toyota TSB springs that technically raise the payload capacity and give about 0.75" of lift. I also have the Wheeler's Off Road 1.5" lift AAL (basically same as Toytec) that would theoretically also increase the payload. What was originally a 3 leaf set up is now a 5 leaf. Neither the TSB or the AAL admit they increase payload because spring stiffness alone is not the only factor in that rating (drivetrain, brakes, etc) but yes, I could put more weight back there and it would sag less. I thought it would be too stiff but as you can see in my gallery, my tires still stuff the wells when flexed just fine.

Side note: switching to 5100's in back made a big difference. My new spring set up was just too much for the stockers to dampen effectively.

As of right now my measurements are:

Passenger Front: 36 1/4"
Driver Front: 36"
Passenger Rear: 37 1/8"
Driver Rear: 36 3/4"

 

I'm loving it! I already have 5100's all the way around so looks like I'm good there, but I have read of some going with a longer Billy shock in the rear too....

Looks like you and Fab have convinced me! Now I just gotta come up with the dough...easier said than done.....

All you need is the spring, and the AAL's from Toytec, which are not that expensive. The sprng is $150, and the AAL is $80. You'll also get a discount if you mention your a TW member. Honestly, if you follow the stickys for the install, you should be able to do it yourself...it's easy, and if you run into problems, or have questions, there is always someone on here to help you. Because your truck is new, and hasn't settled much yet, after the lift you'll be looking real good.

 

Haha...no I'm not, but I hope to be well on my way! I graduated in 2006 with a Wildlife Biology Degree and now I finally got in a field recently where I will be working out side doing stream and river discharge and flow work for the USGS.

Thanks man, much appreciated. Still have some things I'm going to do to it. Bull bar is coming off, and I'm painting the grill black, new wheels coming sometime, plus some tint would be nice as well. Your lucky living down in the States...I had to pay $150 to have the springs and AAL shipped up to me in Canada.
