Spoken like a guy from SoCal :) I was thinking if DV is busy I’d drive the extra distance to JTree.

It’s definitely a cool little spot. I was there in October. Definitely needs a lot of work to be done before it opens up as a hotel.

If the caretaker has tome and you give him a nice tip he’ll give you a tour of the place.

Theres a cool trail that takes you to the top of the mountain and a great view of Death Valley.

I would definitely go back and hit that trail again. Had a blast.

The town of Darwin is just down the road which is a cool little spot too.

I would guess that they will make the access come from 136 but either way it will increase traffic on Saline.

I wouldn't say Darwin is "just down the road". It is in a way but the roads to Darwin are not fire roads, nor the easiest to travel.

IG "influencers" ruined Alabama Hills, and will never be the same again. Just a few years ago anybody could have pick a nice spot anywhere and not have a neighbor in close proximity. Not anymore.

So true. Also true for another 15 places in the Owens valley. Ever wonder why i always mention coyote flat? That place is already lost. I mention it to funnel the tourons there and keep other areas less crowded. :annoyed:

Ha, and how many peeps who make their way to the top of Coyote Flats would ever start from the Big Pine side? I bet 90% won't even know that route exists..

“ just down the road is just an expression”. The miles don’t matter when you’re having fun. I’m and the roads to there are a little rough but that’s what my Taco is made to do. :D
IMHO it’s worth the effort to get there but I understand everyone’s definition of adventure is different.

Merry Christmas to all of you :)

Yep. The Alabama Hills are wonderful. Great place to explore and just have fun. Just don’t go when there is a 10k race or something like I did. It gets very crowded.
