Running full synthetic. I check the dip stick about every 2500 just out of habit. By the time I hit around 10k +/- it’s pretty dark and find that to be preferred time to change.

I mean think about how many people drive around with old oil. Lots. Probably not good for an engine but they still run right?

No, ours does not have an oil change calculator like other brands do. The maintenance light just lights up every 5000 miles (default setting).

You’re right, I honestly (and obviously) know nothing about it. I was more so worried about voiding my warranty if I went to a local guy. Like I said no idea ‍

Have you looked in the toyota owners app to see whats maintenance has been performed? Is this your first vehicle?

You could also call the dealer on the sticker and see what service has been performed in the past as well.

Also just a fyi oil color is not indicative of much, going off color is not a good way to determine how "good" your oil is.

Should be. The abridged version is to top off fluids and rotate tires on the 5's, then do all that plus oil change on the 10's. If your sticker is set at 1k overdue, I'll speculate that the previous owner sold it to the dealer at 11k and they just did its first oil change as part of the sales prep.

Just keep log of it in your maintenance section in the manual. I wouldn't think you need to keep receipts for maintenance outside of dealership but some do.

There is recommended Toyota maintenance every 5k miles which is why the light comes on. Oil changes are every 10k miles.

Canadian Truck - 10,000miles = 16,000km. OP: You're 1200 miles / 2000 km over the recommended change interval. This is NOT panic situation. Yes, you should get it done as quickly as you're able, but the reality is, unless you actually run into a low-oil situation, there's VERY little danger of doing any real harm, regardless of the type of oil (dino or synth) in your truck.

That said, this is very, very simple maintenance, and there are probably a thousand or more 'how-to' videos on YouTube that will take you through the process step-by-step. For a ~$100 investment in tools (if you don't already have access to them), you can do this yourself quickly and easily. I would guesstimate it takes me about 20 minutes to do, at least ten of that is sitting around drinking coffee while waiting for the last little bit of the oil to drip out.

NEVER EVER go to a quick lube shop. You think the mechanics at the dealer are bad, you would be shocked at who they've got working in the pit at those things. (I know, I used to be one when I was 16)

Ditto, stay away from the quickie shops. Just do it yourself or go to a dealership (franchise or independent) with great Google reviews.

im usually pretty bad at this so i mentally tell myself gonna change my oil every 5k miles.

usually end up doing it at 6500 to 7500 which is what I want.

The man was claiming to be in a tight spot. Quick lube was an option. And :rofl::rofl: you think "mechanics" are changing your oil at the dealership. Priceless.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they are ASE certified at least, unlike quick lubes that'll hire Joe schmo off the street and pay $9.50/hour.
