What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Rebuilt my rear driveshaft with new u-joints, centre bearing, rear flange yoke which broke on disassembly, and lubed the slip yoke. Much nicer now with no shakes at highway speeds.

 

If your willing to pay almost 4 grand. I’ll be fine with the FJ T case

 

I can easily see some people needing the Atlas but I won't.

 

Everyone I know that’s swapped in a new case has ended up with a crawl box as well. Skip both and just get the Atlas straight away.

I do understand that we are all on a budget of both time and money and allot of times it’s hard to have both simultaneously. I’ve just learned so much from these guys that when they all say, “just skip this and get the atlas” I listen.

 

I’ve been considering the fj case for almost 2 years now. I have no intention of using it for crawling I would just like to convert to a manual system. Problem with a mt is having to swap the input shaft

 

This is actually what’s most likely happening. I checked on vinyl and for the cost I can raptor twice almost three times. And I don’t want to invest the money on vinyl for it to get scratched to hell again.

 

Yep. I have no shine anymore on 90% of the body.

 

I have the EBC Stage 4 kit, paid $250 in Amazon and comes with pads and rotors. I had the TRD pads in the past and I wasn't impressed and they dust WAY to much. kit I have EBC S4KF1494 Stage-4 Signature Brake Kit $250.13 on amazon.

 

A few places I called today wanted 2-3500 for a full wrap including the shell. Toyota and a few others for paint was 3500.00-7000. Raptor is 500.00 plus whatever paint code I go with. Which is currently looking like destroyer grey.

 

I guess if that’s what your going for. I’m just wanting something to make my truck plenty capable. I’m not doing hard core rock crawling or anything like that. Just something to get me over obstacles and back home.

 

Raptor liner comes with a spray gun but I've heard that it sucks. The best way to spray it is with a spray gun set up for gelcoat to get more control of the quantity being sprayed which allows it to be applied less or more textured to suit personal preference. Raptor liner is very durable and can be sprayed in colors as well.

 

Oh man, that would be definitely the way to go! Post up the results when it's all said and done.

Been wondering about pointing hot exhaust at the tires. I have a buddy that blew a couple of tires on a road bicycle while hung on his hitch rack - on a Volvo wagon - then realized the hot exhaust pointed directly where the bike tires were. Of course, those were at 110 psi and not rotating so maybe that plays a part? Just curious about heating up the truck tires - is it something to consider?

 

I can't imagine truck tires would be affected at all. Road bike tires are super thin in comparison and aren't lined with metal.

 

It's not a worry, the exhaust at that part is no where near hot enough to affect a passenger/light truck tire. I can see it happening on a bicycle though.

I had dual side exit exhaust (same side) on my Dakota R/T with a hopped up 5.9l V8 and never had any issues for what its worth

 

Raptor is a good weekend worth of work. I would consider doing it yourself if you have a compressor. The raptor gun works alright, or get a gun from harbor freight and thin the liner a bit more. I've had good results with both!

 

You will love the stuff, its dam near indistructable

 

Picked up a Bedslide for an Avalanche for 200 bucks then cut 7" out of the middle and welded it up so that it fit my bed. Still need to work out some new brackets for my rotopaks.
