Bought a glock 17 recently! Shot maybe 25rounds. I took it apart to oil it and i found rust on the top frame. this my first time owning a firearm. Is this a common problem on Glocks?

Guessing they aren't devoting too much money into tooling for the g44 so they limit the supply to those states first so people don't bitch about not getting their pre-order

Glock uses a copper anti seize type lubricant from the factory and they say to leave it and shoot the gun till it's gone so that the wear surfaces wear together. If it was there when you bought it, completely normal. If theres actual rust, then no. Not normal.

Haha Ya definitely don't want to lose your hearing. Whether the copper lubricant stays or goes it doesn't matter. I've owned glocks where I shoot the copper out and I've owned some where I clean it right away and put my own lubricant on it. It'll work either way and won't hurt it.

what kind of oil do you recommend using it? My glock kept getting jam but i think its because my mags weren't broken in.

Firstly make sure you're using decent ammo.
Oil type really isn't a big deal. Just make sure you oil the appropriate spots the rails the slide is on and the disconnector. I use G96 or M Pro7. Any oil works. And not to assume anything but you could have possibly been limp wristing while shooting, which could induce malfunctions. Just YouTube those things to see if any of it could apply to you. And make sure you're seating the rounds probably in your magazines. They shouldn't need a break in period.

Ive been using Geissele/ALG VLG (Very Light Grease) on pretty much everything for the last couple of years. It takes very little, stays where it’s put, and just works. YMMV.

TRUTH on all counts. Well stated!

Is this a stock Glock 17? Because a new glock with rust and failure to eject seems a lot off

Hell I've bought Glocks that were full of mud that ran better and weren't rusty

    Picture of Glock factory lube.

Like others said it's copper based so it may look like rust to someone who hasn't seen it. Also like other said, leave it on until it wears off.

Federal is a good brand of ammo and I've never had issues with it. If you're inexperienced you may be limp-wristing but that's more common on smaller framed guns. Did anyone else shoot it? Did they have the same issue?
