Just enough to look kinda cool.
Just dropped my girlfriend off at collage in Lewiston and I can confirm that it stinks. Cell service is on and off most of the way from boise to lewiston but there are plenty of people driving that route so you wouldn't be alone on the journey.

Looks like I might be moving to the CDA area. Any advice on good parts of town/bad parts of town. Places to live, things to do?

Why not on Rathdrum or Post Falls? Hayden looks pretty nice, and eventually maybe some land in the mountains but internet will be the limiting factor on how far out of town we buy a house eventually.

    How about cellular?
We're using a Mofi device which connects to t-mobile 4G for our rural connection.

We'll be testing our mobile signal in a couple weeks up in that area. Should be in Northern ID for new year. :)

well depends where you are its spotty. here at the house we have a Wilson electronics cell booster and 99% time it works good here at the house. Where we used to never have a signal except by the living room window, now we have 4G in most parts of the house. Sometimes it takes a bit to send a pic but sometimes it sends right away. I never kept track of it from Boise to Moscow but some parts you had good cell some parts none..Lots of traffic on the route though so not like you wont see a car if you happen to break down.

Well, @OneGiraffe and I have picked our route, and I was hoping for some guidance around weather, and either dealing with whiteout conditions or closed passes. Looking for WHERE the passes are, and if there are any legitimate alternative routes to at least keep us somewhat on schedule.

We plan on getting to Twin Falls around 6pm on the 26th, then heading east on the 27th to Idaho Falls.
After staying the night in Idaho Falls, on the 28th we plan on heading up to Bozeman via 191.
On the 29th we're heading from Bozeman up to Missoula, and staying in that general area until the 31st; when we head back over to Idaho in the Coeur d'Alene area.
We'll stay in CDA for two nights (fitting in a trip to Mad Bomber) before heading down to McCall on the 2nd; stopping off at Moscow Brewing on the way.
On the 3rd we're planning on heading down to the Boise area, before heading back home on the 4th.

    upload_2019-12-16_8-41-14.jpg

Also, if anyone's in the general area of our route, maybe you've got spots to recommend or maybe even want to meet up for a drink!

just keep an eye on the weather, two passes between Montana and Idaho. I havent gone through there in a while but some pass's require chains to get through if its bad/snowy. Keep that in mind. Im sure if its real bad weather they close down till they get it plowed. Fourth of july pass isnt as high, lookout pass is higher.

Salmon River Brewing in McCall is pretty popular. The crowd favorite seems to be the Shiver IPA.

Cell service is pretty good in the valley here. I have Sprint and have 4G almost everywhere from McCall to Cascade. I live in Cascade and have a spare room if you guys want a place to crash. It's about 30 minutes south of McCall. The highway around here is kept in pretty good shape during storms, visibility is usually the issue.

From West Yellowstone to Bozeman you will be going through the Gallatin. It’s a windy twisty road that gets snow packed etc. It’s not horrible but it’s not great at times. Definitely beautiful. If your looking for a place to eat in Twin Falls, elevation 486 has good food and an amazing view since it sits on the canyon rim. If it’s dark and you can’t see the rim I wouldn’t bother. My favorite restaurant/bar in Twin is scooters in the down town area. Amazing burgers and good service. Milners gate is newer brewery/restaurant in town and is also a fun place to go with a good atmosphere. Koto brewery has a welcoming atmosphere as well and sometimes has a live band etc or karaoke. I’m Idaho falls the downtown area is worth a look. Snake river runs through it with some falls just right in town. My favorite place to eat there is the Copper Rill. Dang good food. Up the road from Idaho falls you will pass through Island park. Most attractions are only accessible by snowmobile in the winter there. Elk station is my go to gas station up there. Better food will be in West Yellowstone. Hope the weather stays well for you. Your passing by a lot of amazing stuff just kinda hard to get to in the winter.

Couer da lene has many good places to eat depending what you are in the mood for. Capones is a good pizza/sandwich place Im sure they have beer, it was on Diners drive inns and dives. Theres a couple in CDA. Anthonys is good for seafood but its more expensive. Quite a few different Mexican places that are decent surprisingly this far north. Also typical fast food places. If you are looking for a Sonic or Popeyes you have to go to Postfalls about 10 min or so west of Cda. I dont recommend Cracker barrel here...its not the same as one in the south. Food at this one sucks! Deny's in Postfalls is better than CDA. Breakfast Nook is a hole in the wall breakfast joint but very quaint and great food.

I’m so jealous. A good friend just moved to Eagle. I was in Boise for the eclipse a couple or so years ago and immediately fell in love with Idaho. I have 2 friends and a great customer who has moved there. Me and the wife are talking about moving to the Boise area. But probably another few years. I’m really over the so ca living. But tons of clogged drains around here. Good money in clearing drains, but I digress. One of the reasons I went with a 4x4 is to be ready when or if I move to Idaho. My wife is a nurse and can get work. Do you guys need more “honest” service and repair plumbers?
