Receiver Hitch D-Ring safe?

    Received a Smittybilt Receiver Hitch D-Ring for early Christmas (link below). Is it safe to install this in the rear bumper tow receiver? Is it safe to use as a recovery point? If not, what could it be used for when mounted in the tow hitch? Hate to just stick it in a drawer and the person who gave it to me never see it on the truck....

    The receiver hitch is generally what you'd use for a rear recovery point anyway, so go for it. I'd put a locking pin in it so it doesn't walk off.

    If you use common sense and within manufacturers limits - yes
    I have one. Haven't used it yet. I have it in the backseat storage with a similarly rated recovery strap

    Crazy idea: take it out when not offroad, same with hitch receivers (tow balls) when not towing. I don't blink when people say theirs walked away. They can be stored under the back seat or even side bed compartment. Those locking pins can seize up pretty quick and then you get the fun of cutting it off.

    True, but it sounded like he wanted to keep it on.

    I keep my tow ball on all the time because I tow enough for it to be annoying to take on and off. If they want to cut my locking pin off and risk getting arrested for a $30 chunk of metal they can have it.

    I take mine off because people (pedestrians) say they run into it when walking past. Also the car wash commented that it destroys their brushes.

    3" lift on 33 inch Nitto's with 18" Fuel wheels. N-Fab step bars. Husky floor liners.
    If people are running into it then they are to close to my truck. As for car wash those same brushes can destroy your trucks paint job. I have seen where a brush ripped off the antenna of a car and then beat the hell out of the car with it as it went by. I hand wash or just let the good lord do it for me and keep my receiver in 24/7.

    yea for people hitting it i would not care in the slightest. if anything it sticks out less then a regular hitch. dont walk so close moron

    as far as washing meh
    i have 3 vehicles i dont have the time to hand wash them all with 2 toddlers.
    some day ill go back to handwashing but drive through it is right now.

    Any basic hitch pin will work then? Are the locking ones ok, or do they go bad quickly with weather and dirt?

    Its the length of the pin. Look for a longer one. Tacoma hitches are a bit fat.

    Mine will probably lose mine now. It’s been in my hitch for almost a year no issues. Used a Curtis trailer hitch pin. Love having the rear recovery point and it keeps people from running into my bumper since I park on a street daily.

    I don't tow as often, but I keep my tow ball on. I live in the City where parrallel parking is a part of daily life. it's more for insurance and protection from bumper kissers
