I've loved my Solomon super mountain 8s for almost 20 years, though they haven't been worn in 10 years
I've dailied the trail runner shoes for prolly 15 years

 

I don't watch a lot of TV or movies and missed out on a lot growing up with super strict parents

I've always liked the GTX Low's, or other Salomons as trail runners; they just outlast everything else I've ever used for hiking or backpacking.

My dad's given me a couple pairs of Solomons he bought and then decided he didn't want for whatever reason but he's a half size bigger than I am so they don't fit that great. I really like Vasque hiking boots...I have narrow feet and the fit really well

can definitely relate with the strict parenting part...didn't see my first rated R movie until I was 17 and only because I was at a friend's house lol. Hell I didn't get drunk for the first time until after high school. Somewhere around the time I turned 18 a switch flipped in my brain and I went from being a Boy Scout (literally) to being my parent's absolute worst nightmare. All that sheltering backfired big time lol. Anyway yeah I can feel ya on that one

Technically you want a half size bigger if you backpack; your feet grow significantly as they swell when you're on a multi-day backpacking trip.

For a weekend, one pair works.

For a week hike or longer, I take a second pair that's half a size larger with thin wool socks.

 

oh yeah I have compression socks and the whole ordeal for high altitude hikes, my dad and I did Mt Whitney a few years back and you definitely wanted bigger shoes for when your feet swell up at 14k+ feet. But for everyday stuff I can't really wear them unless I have thick socks on and then they just get your feet all hot.

 

Do you wear knee high socks with shorts?
