As long as folks accept the consequences. I made my peace with it. IMHO, Toyota should have been smarter with chrome on a truck.

    IMG_20181201_154024.jpg

I also rationalized that with the visible split lines, it will be accelerating in an arc, not linearly backward. So, the force will be more of a shearing action than tension. If it releases, it will either fling somewhere near my neck / head or higher. Given the weight and number of studs (11, I think), I am not worried.

Now, not using the studs and just glue. I wouldn't recommend that.

Why not just paint the emblem black? Much safer. JMO.

Yep! That is exactly what I did. I am not good enough to prep and paint while still attached.

Like I said, I considered and rationalized the consequences.

I agree with you on the high price of UpTopAlpha rack, they're on the high end of the roof rack price point and it's a deterrent for many consumers. With that being said we never pay for just the raw material; we pay for the engineering and time behind the product. I think if you actually took the time to design, fabricate and test your own rack you would probably charge more than the cost of the material. They can charge whatever price they want, it's worth what consumers are willing to pay.
In the interest of disclosure I do not own their product but I'm currently in the market for a roof rack and their price is keeping me from buying one for now.

Not only that, but promotes glare and distractions. Several times, I saw glints in my windows from the PoS chrome thinking it was other cars coming at me. Similar for the stupid visor stickers. They were always catching my eye.

I agree, the center console chrome glared in my face this morning. I'll be replacing that.

    :hattip: No problem.

The guy that makes the replacement custom badges includes material to make studs. It is up to the owners to use that material or not.

That was the main culprit that set off a small mod frenzy. @rrentrop and soon @MESO will have stuff to help you out. The matte stuff from @rrentrop was killer and is holding up extremely well.

You and me both, brother. It would make the rear useless for passengers, but I don't put people back there anyways.

I'd like to see an insert for the hood scoop that matches the Pro grill.

I wonder if he would do an all open design? Shouldn’t comprise the integrity of the small panel
