33" Tires in 16".....NOT Load Range E

I had the same problem as you. There's so many good looking wheels ruined by the fake beadlock trend. I ended up going with the Konig Countersteer Type X from FN Wheels. They're the most affordable lighter weight wheels too. My stock offroad wheel/tire weighed 62.2lbs and the Konig with 285/70/17 Wildpeak AT3W's came in at 72.8lbs (I came from the racing world before this too so weight was a consideration). I think I would have only saved a pound or two more going with Volks. My one preference would have been for them to come in silver. I think that would have looked better on my BBP truck.

 

Try to check on Cooper AT3 XLT All Terrain.
They are E rated 10 ply but the lightest in it's class. Worth every penny.

I am running it and IMO they are better than Falken AT3W

I'm with you on this. I have E rated tires on my little 4 banger. I went from C rated to E rated cause I wanted a tougher tire when I am out further in the sticks. All it took was one flat tire with a C to change. I couldn't be happier with them and I have an add peace of mind.

I actually saw no change in mpg.

 

If King shocks can't handle a few extra pounds from a 10 ply tire, they sure as shit aren't going to handle ANY offroad abuse.

Hell, they'd fall apart if you hit a curb in the mall parking lot.

 

You’re missing the point entirely. He’s not afraid of damaging the Kings. He simply wants a more plush ride, and doesn’t want to ruin the nice ride of the upgraded suspension with ultra stiff tires.

you ever heard of unsprung weight? rotational mass? load rate, speed rate? plenty of reasons to go with LR C tires and King shocks.

 

What? No, never heard of any of those those things.

That said, I come from the mind set that if you want an off road truck, put off road parts on it. If you don't want an off-road truck, but want it to LOOK like an offroad truck, sure, spend a ton of money on kewl blue shocks, then get some crap C range tires. Drive to mall. Park it. Post on instagram.

Toyota sells C range tires on their off road trucks, too. It's not about off road performance, it's so the manufacturers can better meet federal MPG standards. Toyota doesn't even supply all terrain tires on their top of the line off road super truck.

That has no bearing on the idea that C range are in any way better for off-road. They are thinner, more prone to punctures, and don't handle low air pressures as well.

My .02: I'm on my 2nd set of fierce attitude 285.75.16 load E. Set 1 had 65k on them and still had 12/32 on them. I was about to put them on my 4runner when I traded them, with wheels, for a warn winch. This set has about 45k on them and I'm down to about 14/32 (new at either 18 or 19, I forget). I typically run them at 35psi; wheeling I drop them to 12. Keep them rotated. Drive like grandpa.

Are they heavier? Yep.
Are they stiffer? Yep.
Will I buy another set? Yep.
Do they run as smooth as the cooper at3's on the runner? Nope. But I wheel my truck.
Did my mpg go down? Meh, maybe by 3.

This set with the steelies are INSANE with the weights. The last set with Aluminum fancy wheels wasn't nearly as bad. I may switch wheels next set.

Personally, I think they're an underrated tire.
However, for the security of wheeling in central Oregon where there's more than enough sharp lava rock to ruin your afternoon, I love them. I've scraped them pretty hard a few times with barely a scratch.
The choices to fit OP's criteria are limited and we all have our personal preferences. OP, I'd say if you want a D load in a 33 go with something that fits your overall style of wheeling. I hear the Maxx's are really good.
I'm gonna push for the attitude tho.

 

C range tires are at best, "adequate" for off road for the many reasons that have been discussed on this forum and others ad nauseam. Just because they come on the TRD Pro and Raptor doesn't make them a good tire for he "hard core" offroading the trucks are marketed as. The ONLY reason they are supplied on factory trucks is because they try everything possible to meet MPG standards. It has nothing to do with off road capability.

I get that not everyone "needs" E range tires. Nothing is "wrong" with it, you do you. Kings are high performance off-road shocks and when you slap some C pr P range street tires, you're not going to be able to use probably 10% of the capability of those $2000+ shocks.

In other words, to me it doesn't make sense to spend so much money on high performance off road suspension, only to slap on some at best, marginal off road tires.

 

I only run duratracs or ridge grapplers because they come in load C or D. I save 10 lbs and they're still very reinforced on the side wall. 6 ply. I wish more tires offered something between the tough choice of E or SL.

 

D's are definitely a good compromise for a mix of street and dirt, at least as far as sidewall durability. The problem is that there aren't as many thread patterns available because it's a less popular load range. There's a lot more C's and E's out there I think.
