They surveyed drivers of all electric cars. Nearly all of them will never purchase another ICE vehicle again.

Target markets is right. It won't resonate with the small town rancher types who have been driving 30 year old Dodge pickups (and whose daddies drove them, and their daddies before that, etc.)... those guys are going to be sticking with known quantities (big 3).

That said, Cybertruck is a force for change, and like it or not, it will force all truck makers to innovate.

Although trucks have gotten expensive there has never been more competition in the marketplace than right now. Pickups and SUV sales are on fire. The soon to arrive Tesla Model Y SUV is predicted to outsell all of the current Tesla products combined. I predict Model 3 sales will take a nosedive once the Model Y hits the streets next year. We also have the Hyundai Santa Fe pickup hitting the streets soon.

Family legend that great-grandfather said that these new-fangled automobiles would never replace a good horse. He lived to see the day there wasn't a single working horse on his farm.

    1) The mere fact that a person switches to an electric car in the first place tells me that they are either indifferent to ICE or don't like ICE. If someone is thinking about buying an electric car then that tells me they are probably already mentally committed to the technology.
    2) How many of those surveyed live in urban or suburban areas where chargers are easy to get to and abundant? What is their commute like? Do they take road trips often far outside of their home area?

I'm fully ready for an electric Tacoma (or F150, etc.), and to never have another ICE again. I fully expect my current Tacoma to be my last ICE.

Once the gas stations close you may not have a choice.

Electric trucks already outperform all gas trucks in pulling power.

Owning a gas vehicle will be a hassle in another 10 years.

Im in the same boat. I look forward to the day when I never have to go to another gas station, or do another oil change.

I look forward to the simplicity and reliability of electric power.

They make too much off gas tax. Owning a gas vehicle will not be a hassle in our lifetime.

If you pay attention you'll see the powers that be are already prepping for this by initiating the process of switching from a gas tax to a miles driven tax. They will get their money.

Airplanes, trains, and freight ships will have to keep up with mileage?

Not sure if serious. I'll bite. This is money earmarked for highway construction. So no, just the vehicles that travel on roads.

I’m serious. Freight trains burn a lot of fuel to power the electric generators that run the electric motors that drive them. Them and 18 wheelers move every product across our country, they may start taxing by mileage on personal vehicles but they still make too much on tax money on fuel/gas. I think they want to charge by mileage in addition to the fuel tax.

Those taxes are on specific types of fuel and already taxed differently than fuels used for street vehicles.

Right, but hopefully you understand these are owned by commercial entities that are taxed in an entirely different manner than we are. The 18 wheelers will be subject I assume as they use the highways that the gas taxes support. And I suspect your are correct that gas tax will remain and we will just also get taxed for mileage as they love to take all the money they can.

Already becoming a hassle. Last gas station closed within city limits in Vancouver, curb-side refuelling is now a thing.

I put 10 electric vehicle chargers in a high rise condo with 80 units. Within 6 months 25 owners had bought electric cars and they want all 80 parking spaces electrified.

I read if only 10% of the population goes electric, gas prices with double. This will drive more people to electric and so on.

People are not seeking out electric cars for altruistic reasons. They are seeking them out because they are better vehicles, and the gains are only beginning.

Anyways.....prepare for the end of ICE as a viable choice for a personal vehicle. Not next year, not in two years, but reasonably in the next 10 it will be past the tipping point. It’s happening faster than I thought it would.

So I'm guessing you are an electrician? Aren't there serious concerns on the power grid as currently constructed being able to handle the power consumption of thousands of electric vehicles charging at mostly the same times?

Not really. Efficiencies in LED lighting, high efficiency appliances, better thermal insulation, more efficient motors, and the shift of manufacturing to Asia, have opened up large swaths of capacity, especially in the evening.

We just had an update to the electrical code in B.C. that facilitates the technology where chargers inter-communicate with each other and the building metering to stage charging times and share building capacity. This was done so Vancouver’s bylaws that require a EV charger for every new parking space in every new building can be feasible.

Even if you still wanted to use oil as a source of energy for vehicles, it is much more efficient and effective to burn the oil in a stationary plant that powers the grid, than have us all carrying around the infrastructure to burn the gas inside our vehicles.

Im not a EV advocate, but can’t ignore what I see happening. People want EV vehicles. Let’s face it, they are more convenient for a lot of people, and the performance end of things is going to be through the roof.
