I sent them a email about shifting weight see what they say after u brought that up I kind was thinking it would rip out the bed screws so see what they say

 

Just make your life easier and buy a different camper that fits what you want. A GFC is not what you’re looking for. Pick up a FWC shell or camper if you’re going to live in a tiny truck bed full time.

 

I was at Overland Expo east this October and I got to see all of them. These are just the canopy campers, not flip-overs or FWCs Project M.

TLDR: I ordered the GFC. Weight is everything to me. I also like the price and the open-air style. If I was planning on being in colder climates, I would have gotten the Snap, which also has the shortest build time.

Here is what I could gather from talking to owners and some of the builders, either on-site or via email. All of this information was gathered in October so some things may have changed since then.

1) Khaya Camper: Weight - around 500lbs. This was from one of the OK 4 wheel guys.
Build - solid as a rock. Highly modifiable, lots of options but all are expensive. This is the only one that I had a
chance to pull the tent back down. It was not easy to do this at all and I weight 190lbs.
Time from order to deliver: I did not ask.
Price: Expensive - again, did not ask.

2) Snap/Treehouse: Weight - about 400lbs, according to the builder.
Build: Solid, interior finish somewhat less than the Khaya, but very similar overall in design.
Time from order to deliver: 10 weeks (as of October)
Price: A cheap ($6500) option is available but if you get that, they will not put in any options.
A moderately decked out one is around $10,000

3) Vagabond Drifter: Weight - about 400lbs, depending on options, according to the builder (via email)
Build: Solid, but it seems less so than the previous two. This one did not have the insulation, and the
owner said he wished he had gotten it. This unit also had no windows in the side, which is something
the owner said he planned to do on his own.
Time from order to deliver: 10 months (according to the builder, via an email)
Price: Starts at $7500 and quickly rises to over $10,000 if you get doors/windows.

4) Go Fast Camper: Weight: 275lbs depending on bed length, options.
Build: Good, light but stiff. I could not shake it when I grabbed the struts and tried. Composite panels had a good fit, owner had no problems with dust entry as some have reported.
Owner also said he had no hinge issues but he also said he doesn't use them to climb up, either. He said
He sometimes had condensation after a cold night but mostly blamed that on the Camp Buddy heater.
Time from order to build: 10 months to a year.

the base weight is about 340lbs for a short bed model (no windows or fan or any other options added)

 

I should have been more specific. In all my emails with dealers, I was asking about a camper that would fit a 3rd Gen Tacoma with a DCLB

 

Still waiting for that mobile repair announcement after Thanksgiving.

I wish that BS story went away. Hinges were not failing because people were utilizing them to pull themselves up. Hinges were failing because GFC put a continuous living hinge on a surface that wasn’t flat.

I and others have posted pics on TW and the gfc forum showing how the hinge doesn’t lay flat on the frame in our builds. Resealing should supposedly provide a flat surface and hinge support solving the issue.

It was a fatal design flaw, end of story. Not misuse.

 

They didn’t state what year.

In a week it will be “after Christmas” and Thanksgiving will no longer be the time point of reference.

 

a I just remember I had a plan were it was supposed to float over the kitchen set up n I was gonna add a a different tailgate and bolt the gimbal propane stove to it on a locking slide out I was gonna have some one build me a aluminum box that opens a certain way to protect it from the elements n thow a full bed rug cut the tail gate part n make it were I can put it on the tailgate swing to try and block the dust the best I could the thow a bbq grill cover over my fridge and the metal counter but yall kinda killed my ideas I'v put a lot of thought in to it were I would have the room I needed that's how it wasn't gonna be cramped i was going to put the kitchen set up towards the side of the tail gate

 

so the kitchen in the passenger corner the swing would rise above the fridge the stove would be able to lock in place in the far corner and then be able to slide out when needed

 

We are trying to help, what you have planned sounds like a lot of work and might not do what you hope it will. Listen to @YOTA 4X4 he was an early adopter but realized it didn't meet the needs of his use case.

I don't normally agree with you but here I do

 

I got all the pieces n I know my shit sounds crazy as fxck but I did add all the wieght had it planned out for everything I wanted to do but now idk yall really killing my plans man the plan for the fire pit was to have a aluminum box that sinked in to the roof rack with a lid that pop up with some linear actuators n put the fire pit on the lid raised up then start it

 

I already did the hammock stand and projector screen on a slide out camper but my truck couldn't handle the payload of the slide out I took it in down town seattle up steep hills n figured out it wasn't worth it shit was sketchy I add the air bag suspension and off road tires that's why I went with gfc do to wieght and not want to fxck up my truck on long drives

 

With all my work shit and clothes and being loaded up to live in it was 300 over payload thought it would be cool with upgrading the tires and throwing beefy tires but it wasn't n I have to travel over mountain passes so I said fxck it not worth it still got it too just in storage just a old school 90s camper

 

Plus, you keep quoting yourself.
