This thread has blossomed into something so beautiful I never could have imagined.

    Edit: 2015 is best, clearly

I wonder if I could use this chart to grind someone down on the cost of a low-miles 2012? Maybe get them to throw in a couple of cases of Fluid Film or something.

In reality it will be a great deal. 2 trucks for the low price of one. A red cab and a black box. The grind will be the area ground down to hide the frame welds to join the 2 together.

No self-respecting dealer would give a single frick-frack for what TW has to say.

Well. One thing is clear, 3G is generally better received than 2G, by a long shot. It’s just simple math, even with the results skewed in the favour of 2G (6 years rather than 5).

    As of December 19th:

Total votes for a 2G model year: 155
Total votes for a 3G module year: 223
Result: 3G is superior to 2G: 223/155 = 143% better truck according to TW members.

This is where the truth really shows itself:
Total votes per model year 2G = 155/6 years = 25.8 votes per model year
Total votes per model year 3G = 223/5 years = 44.6 votes per model year
Result: 3G is 172% more likely to be a favourite truck than 2G according to TW members.

Greatest number of model years in bottom 50% ranking = 2G/5 years

    Least liked year = 2G 2012 (7 votes)
    Least liked 3G year = 2016 or 2018 (33 votes)
    The amount people prefer a 2016 or 2018 to a 2012 = TW members are 4.71X more likely to prefer a 3G 2016 or 2018 to a 2G 2012 (33/7=4.71)

    Most liked year = 2015 (88 votes)
    Most liked 3G year 2017 (79 votes)
    2015 is 11% more liked by TW members than a 2017 (88/79=1.11)

Can’t argue with the math. 2G is not as well liked as 3G, when looked at as a whole.

Um...I sucked at statistics, but i remember something called "selection bias". There's something about this poll originating from a 3rd gen forum that is ringing a bel....nm... I drank too many sorority girl Trulys. Don't listen to me

Normally I would agree with you, but we both know like 98% of the 2G guys spend most of their time lurking the 3G section, so I figure the poll is fair.

I'm currently writing EOY summaries for my various projects going on in the lab, which means I just so happen to have my stat software open... :D

    Here is what I see:

    upload_2019-12-20_8-34-17.jpg

    upload_2019-12-20_8-50-19.jpg

The years 2015 and 2017 are definite outliers which can be explained by the hypothesis of "real men hate tech," i.e. bias towards years preceding major upgrades

Ignoring outliers, there is a trendline that can be broadly defined by the statement "the newer it is, the more popular it is."

A 2x2 matrix cross plot could yield more insight by surveying "which year do you own" vs. "which year is your favorite." I suspect the results of that analysis would show a matching trendline that more participants own newer vehicles.

2015, it's the newest 2nd gen you can buy. It was the middle of the decade, and there still isn't anyone excited about a power adjustable driver's seat.
