And air-conditioning! Anyone who truly knows square bodies knows that even A/C-delete models have the cutouts behind the dash pad for A/C vents, but unless you're doing a full teardown and rebuild, who really wants to go through the trouble of adding all of the HVAC guts like an evaporator core, etc?

If my timeframe is correct, back in the early 90's my buddy bought a brand new 454 SS Pickup.

A 2-ton, 4-wheeled middle finger to the environment! They made the 454SS from 1990 to 1993...

1990 models had 230hp, while 1991-1993 models had a 255hp due to changes with the exhaust if my memory serves...

The easiest way to tell a 1990 model from a 1991-1993 model is the gauge cluster; 1990 models have the 1988-1990 instrumentation, while all 1991-1993 models got the new-for-1991 gauge cluster with a standard tachometer.

Interesting info on the cluster differences, thanks! My buddy only kept that truck for a couple years as it kept having some bizarre issues with the steering column, had to be replaced several times. Then finally the truck got stolen, stripped, recovered, and repaired so he ditched it after that.

The insurance company opted to fix it after it got stripped instead of totaling it? Interesting...

They did as it wasn't totally stripped and minimal body damage if memory serves me.

My one buddy had an old Cutlass and it broke down, he got a ride home and then I went with him to go get it running and it was laying on the frame as someone stole the wheels and didn't even put it on blocks.

I saw a '91 454SS on eBay that was stolen out of NYC when it was either new or maybe a year old. It disappeared and the insurance company wrote the owner a check. Almost two decades later, it was found somewhat stripped but in good enough condition to be restored, in a garage just a few miles from the original owner's home! The truck was being sold with salvage title if I remember correctly, so it could be put back on the road with minimal work!

Arnold Schwarzenegger played a workaholic father in the 1996 film Jingle All The Way, and he drove a 1995 GMC Suburban; The Suburban ran out of gas, and he had to leave it unattended while he went to get gas...

This is what he he came back to!

If that were my Suburban and that happened to it, after I finished having violent fantasies about what I'd do to the thieves if I caught them, I'd fix it. The engine and mechanical components are are all there, and all it really needs is doors, seats, a hood, and wheels...

Yeah that looks like a pretty easy fix.

I'd give it a 4-wheel disc conversion though! The movie took place back in 1996; Do you think an insurance company would have written this truck off when it was a few months to one years old?

Brakes have vastly improved in the last decade or so, I would think they would have repaired it if it didn't suffer any drivetrain damage.

I'd want it back, as long as the thieves didn't do drugs in it or trash the interior, or something...

A few years ago I plugged the VIN# in for my old 2002 Mustang and a screen came up and said the car had been stolen sometime after I got rid of it. Even though it was many years after I got rid of it I still felt violated in a certain way, I ordered it brand new and my name was even printed on the window sticker.
