And ice engines wear out. What's the difference?

I just searched what a battery cost for the Chevrolet Volt is, list price is $15K I can replace the engine in the Tacoma a few times for that.

Good point. We'll see where it goes in time. My bet is it'll be comparable, engines are cheap because we've been building them so long, batteries will go the same way.

I've had the Ryobi for years, it rocks, no issues ever. When I threw the last one across the yard and into a tree, it was time for a replacement and this one has been amazing.

Awesome. For me it would be replacing a 37 year old Honda that starts on the first pull, but also has the side benefit of fogging for mosquitoes.

I was looking at the Makita.

In all seriousness, you think an electric mower would last 37 years?

Sure. Why not? Batteries are the same ones my other tools use and will wear out, but the rest of it mechanically simpler than an equivalent gas engine. The power electronics definitely will - if designed appropriately.

I've had many different brands, they all performed great until they were left to sit all winter and the carb went to hell and I had to remove it and clean it. I tried every way there is to store them for winter but each spring until I took it apart and cleaned the carb and lines they were a pita! With this one, put the battery on the charger for a couple hours and go! 3 seasons with it so far and it does nothing but perform well every use.

I'd probably buy an electric mower, but my chosen power tool ecosystem does not have one. Short sighted on my part. Means another brand of batteries and charger. However, I could pair those up with leaf blower and string trimmer.

We have a trac-vac that hooks to the mower to get our leaves up. I used it last December and put stabil blue stabilizer in the gas. Got it out two weeks ago, pulled it twice and used it for 3 hours no problems. I believe in the blue stabilizer for long storage.

Yeah they're a pain. I've had pretty good luck with mine, but compared to plugging in a battery it's a lot of fooling around.

And with a headlamp, I could mow at night!

The ryobi comes with lights and is self propelled but I find myself not using it, it's so damn light and ez to move. The bonus is you can mow
anytime you like they're so damn quiet, they put out less noise than the vacuum. I'll come in from mowing and the wife never even knew I
was out there doing it in the first place.
