Tacoma -vs Ranger 2019 sales figures...it aint pretty

A Tacoma engine is about double that.

 

They're yuppies it's not like they will steal Nikes and overturn police cars because of an hour long wait at the Tesla station.

 

Who's buying an engine at a dealer though? Junk yards are probably full of them.

 

i've been in my house 13 years. on the second mower because i grenaded teh first when i caught a tree stump with the blade. ooops

in the fall, i run it dry, store it in the shed. in the spring i had fresh oil and gas and away i go. never had an issue with starting.

 

I'm just doing an apples to apples comparison for a brand new battery vs the cost of a brand new engine.

 

So far that hasn't been true with Tesla. JD Power has pretty low reliability ranking, same with CR.

Well you and family can enjoy a movie or more likely two movies while waiting in line, then another movie while charging.. great bonding time for the family! If your wife and kids didn't like electric cars before, they'll love you now.

Another thing is the mining and production of lithium, which China and some others have great control over. It'll be like the black gold rush back then. Also the manufacturing and disposal of these batteries aren't clean either.

 

Thats for a brand new engine. By the time 3rd gen Tacoma owners need to change their engine, the sun will have died out and we will be an extinct species.

 

But looking at ebay, you're still paying less for the volt battery vs the tacoma engine off there. Some of them do get close in price though.

 

Go look at used tacoma engines and used volt batteries, its about the same with the volt batteries being cheaper in a lot of instances.

 

How about we compare Chevy Cruze or Sonic engine to the Bolt battery packs? That'd be a more even comparison.

I'm comparing the Volt to the Tacoma because that's the comparison the person I am responding to made.

 

Why do you have so much faith in this platform? I mean the engine is fine, but I don't expect it to last forever.

 

C’mon man. When people start quoting JD Power, I know we are all grasping at straws.

 

Cars and trucks will be legislated off the road before all of them wear out. Just like my 76 FJ40.

 

Of course it won't last forever, but I suspect it will last longer than an EV battery, and definitely retain its range far better. What's the leftover range on an EV battery after 400k miles? What's the range on a well maintained Tacoma engine after the same number of miles?

 

I expect my 3rd gen would be miserable to repair at 400k miles. Think of how many sensors these trucks have and how much each one costs. I've already had to replace a steering angle sensor and it was a ~$1,000 repair. Then a rear main which required the whole trans to be dropped. ~$2,000 repair. My truck has 65k miles.

 

Your FJ40 has so few parts comparatively and most of them you can make by hand if you had to. I restored a 79 Jeep Cherokee Chief last winter and it was a joy in its simplicity.

 

So beside JD Power and CR, what other should we go by? Musk's words(often proven to be wild claims)?

 

Isn't JD Power owned by GM to some degree?
