Once cars get off oil, fuel for airplanes will be much cheaper, resulting in cheaper tickets. They're also experimenting with biofuels that are more efficient than jet fuel. I cant imagine solar or battery/hybrid systems due to weight. Honestly, I'd prefer electric high speed rail than air travel. I've been on HSR in Japan, Korea, and Europe. Way better than US domestic air travel.

The build quality on any Tesla I've been in has been pretty bad. No personal experience with reliability. Them not being willing to sell repair parts to consumers is a big red flag for me personally.

Youre making the false assumption though that all or many of the sensors will fail in 400k miles. Sure a few will fail, including O2 sensors and the sort, but I suspect most will be fine. This isn't a Volkswagen.

We have a lot of modern (and classic) Jeeps and Yotas here at the shop that I manage on a daily basis. I'm NEVER surprised at what fails

J.D. Power (the man) was a marketing executive at Ford in the 1960s but it's currently owned by S&P Global (formerly called McGraw-Hill). I don't think it has any connection to GM or really any one car company. They did just this week merge with Autodata Solutions, not familiar with their ownership.

Yeah I have no interest in owning a Tesla for these reasons, along with the nanny nature of their software. The value of that company to me is proving that electric vehicles can be useful transportation and pushing the technology forward.

Our 2002 Jetta has actually been a pretty good car. Probably because it's the base model, crank windows, stick shift, 2.0L gasser without a turbo, made in Germany. It's got 170k on it of mostly urban commuting so not particularly easy miles. It's rusted pretty bad behind the front wheels and the catalytic converter started rattling and I had to replace that this summer. Otherwise gotta admit it's been kind of unVeeDub. Still running the original clutch even.

It needed to have a worthless NOX emission control system. Headers, Holley carb on stock engine. Ran cleaner and more efficiently than state smog regs, but failed visual inspection(no NOX system). Now resides as a farm vehicle.
Self driving cars in ten years. Take it from a guy who makes airplanes without pilots. Of course, we have to be here in ten years, I don't believe that's a sure thing.

When electric cars (and particularly trucks) make sense I would be thrilled to buy one. I personally see myself waiting until they’ve been established as the dominant form for a few years, assuming that happens. I really like the Rivian in particular, and I’m excited to see what Toyota comes up with in the future.

A huge turn off for me from Tesla is the rabid idiotic fanboys. Elon Musk (who I do like) could reveal an electric unicycle shaped like a duck and the Tesla fanboys would crap their pants talking about forward thinking and visionary it is, and how stupid you are for not seeing that.

Everyone on this forum will be either dead or an old man before electric is as common or actually replaces combustion engines. Sorry

I always thought the tall skinny vehicles were made that way for foreign countries narrow roads making them look out of place here.

Here in the forests of East Texas we run our vehicles on pine knots and our computers on kerosene. And we like it. They throw a few codes that nobody has ever seen, but we just clear them with a hammer.

'Cause...pine knots are a renewal resource.

I assume you got some money back for the emissions thing? My GF's ex did and traded it for another vehicle.

    LOL--FTW!

I have a bunch of Ryobi tools including an electric weed trimmer (great), electric drill (great), electric caulker (didn't think I would like it so much but LOVE IT!) and electric leaf blower (18-V--not so great, short run time). Not to mention a lot of plug-in tools. Great products.

However...for the electric lawnmower I went with an Ego. Absolutely love it--a joy to mow and mulch leaves with. The zero maintenance thing is awesome. At $550 it's not much more than a really good Honda gas mower.

I am having problems with my gas-powered Toro snow blower--probably needs a new sparkplug--10 years old and surprisingly has been reliable until recently despite essentially zero maintenace. I am looking at the Ego SB, but at $700 or so that's a little harder to swallow. Also sometimes with a heavy snow I may use the blower for 45" to an hour--don't know if the electric would be up to it. We'll see if I can resuscitate the Toro.

BTW, aren't we supposed to be talking about Rangers and Tacos?

that run time & power is what stopped me from getting the leaf blower. The Ryobi mower w/ lights & being self propelled was only
just over 300, seem like a no brainer costing the same as a gas mower.

lol been here almost 10 years and I've yet to see a thread stay on topic.
