Every "enthusiast" vehicle has these fan boys.

Queue up the fan boys on here who rave about the superiority of drum brakes and they should obviously be on the front axles too because they're so simple, reliable, and just that good.

A few people justifying drum brakes =/= a massive group of the stupidest people in the universe seeking out every negative or neutral word against their beloved Tesla and throwing a hissy fit. Tesla’s fan base is notorious for this.

I drove a 2019 Tacoma and then a 2019 Ranger the same day.

The above is the view that Tacomas will get of the Ranger on the street.

The HP numbers are similar on paper (but torque is not) and I don't know about long term durability, but the Ranger will scoot.

Ford's 270/310 numbers are conservatively rated on 87 octane. Stock rear wheel dyno numbers range from 243 to 255 so either the 10 speed auto is extremely efficient or Ford is fudging the numbers a bit (using a 15% driveline loss, 243 at the rear wheels = 285HP/315TQ at the crank. 255 rear wheel = 300HP/330TQ)

Rumor is that if you run premium the computer will respond and up the ponies a bit more.

Point is that when the Fanboy gene kicks in, cognitive dissonance overcomes all rational thought.

I've ridden in quite a few Teslas and while their owners can be rabid fanbois, most are normal people who happen to really like their car.

    They are indeed impressive.

Ludicrous mode acceleration must be experienced firsthand to really get an idea of just how strong it is.

That is far down the list of my reasons to buy a mid-size truck. A fourbanger, on meth to make it scoot. Hell, with enough toot even I could outrun Usaine Bolt. Once. The candle that burns the brightest also burns the shortest. As it was said somewhere else on here, when that Ranger is Budweiser cans, our Tacos will only be middle age. If I feel the need to scoot, I've got a G8, it also seemingly on meth, and a lethally-quick shifterkart that will effortlessly outrun it by a mile. There are scoot metrics, and then there are SCOOT metrics. My Taco is for when I do other thangs.

As an aside, Junior Johnson died today.

Every car responds to higher octane by advancing the timing a bit to prevent knock. The Ranger is no different. Where did you surmise the idea that it "ups the ponies?" Even if that mysticism was accurate, I still hate the way it looks (which was the original point I was making, totally irrespective of power/torque specs).

Dyno tests show it to make 300 on 91 octane.

    There is the mysticism.

    Uhhhhhhh okay

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdzFYldr4Mg

    245 on 87 Octane

    https://www.tfltruck.com/2019/01/20...l-dyno-results/2019-ford-ranger-dyno-results/

    257 on 93 Octane

Variables like atmospheric pressure, temperature, engine warm up, hell even diff fluid play into this. Advancing the timing will naturally increase engine speed, not power. While I appreciate throwing out a random number and saying it's "proof" of whatever it is you're talking about, it's irrelevant. It has a knock sensor and changes valve timing like every other modern car. It didn't even make the rated numbers on 93 Octane and it's still ugly.

    From AutoGuide.com (https://www.autoguide.com/manufacturer/ford/2019-ford-ranger-review-video)

"This powerplant is also tuned to run on more affordable 87-octane gasoline, however, if you fill the tank with premium fuel you can expect closer to 300 horses." Certainly looks like 257 is closer, but still failed to meet rated numbers. Be realistic here, you're telling me that Hennessey could charge consumers thousands of dollars for a 300hp package and just tell them "put in 93 Octane"? Doubtful. (https://www.motor1.com/news/306841/2019-ford-ranger-hennessey-video/)

P.S. My neighbor's Radio Flyer is faster than my Taco, but that means nothing to me.

No manufacturer rates HP at the wheels.

245 rear wheel is 288 crank

257 rear wheel is 302 crank. (both assuming 15% driveline losses)

    You proved my point.

    And it's not just speed.

A vehicle that is lethargic when empty will be even more so when pulling a trailer.

I took Psychology 101 once upon a time too. It didn't make the truck look any less ugly.

    You're right.

    I concede.

The Tacoma makes its rated 278HP at the wheels.

TFL did a drag race between the 2, pro vs fx4 and the Ranger roasted the Tacoma.
I’m sticking with my Tacoma but the Ranger was quick.

The hennesy "package" is intake, catback and a chip. It's not something radical.

Unfortunately the ranger is still ugly.

This doesn't change my principle argument: it's ugly.

    This guy gets it! haha
