I'll be the jerk that says it, but all hope was lost for me with automatic braking / TSS-P. At that point (say a collision that totals the Taco), I'd either search hard for another 2017 MT or just surrender to the EVs. Then, I wouldn't give a fuck about the 'safety' systems. My only desire is heavy regen braking for a smig of control.

The only “hybrid” I’d buy, is a turbo or supercharged V6. Electric? No thanks, don’t need it, and trucks weigh enough as is!

Interesting insight there into the Prius V. I talked to a cab driver in Vancouver who said they had roughly 2.5 million kilometres (1.55 million miles) on it, just an engine swap out at every 1 million klics. It sounds like they really nailed the economy, longevity and reliability in those hybrids.

My taco is a long term keeper but when we need a new second vehicle down the road a hybrid 4 runner would be top of the list.

Agreed, but it illustrates the potential performance of EV's. Crazy how the one driver's ego couldn't take being beaten by an EV.

After the race the Tesla went home to charge for 8 hours. The hot rods hit the local 76 gas and kept racing.

Absolutely! Just give me a prius transmission for simplicity/durability, and full electric power recharged by a ICE for that wonderful low-end torque.
Then again, would I trade my 2TR for it, hell no.

Offtopic, but where do you live that prius seem to handle well in snow? Here they are the #1 road plug as soon as a flake drops. Literally all the hills are littered with priuses with hazards on and old people standing around screwing the rest of us trying to get home. They are also the main car that will drive right past snow control signs. I am sure they are all running those hard rubber hypermile tires, so I am surprised that in your region they seem to do good.

A Prius could've raced the mustangs and then driven across the country for $200 in gas. What's your point?

It's a 1/8 mile drag race. The loser usually doesn't boast about how many times they can lose in a row.

I'm sure it's reliable. Drove mine for 45k with no issues. But I just hated driving it. Also, it was very hard to sell without taking a total bath.

It's the same as most any other fwd car in the snow, except traction control can't be fully disabled, excessive wheel spin essentially sends power spikes though the system. A pedal-dance can put it in diagnostic mode, but it might not be worth the risk. Modern winter tires solve the majority of the snow issues except in northern climates, e.g. I wouldn't want to own one to daily-drive in upstate NY, VT/NH.

Toyota wrote the book on hybrid vehicles and they are heavily invested in the technology. They announced a $13 billion dollar hybrid investment this year in the US. I would not hesitate to purchase a hybrid Tacoma. If they offered a hybrid TRD Pro in 2019 I would have purchased one.

I have always had at least one toyota truck in my stable since 1991. That said even I dont blindly believe that mother toyota can do no wrong. 3rd gen trans shifting is the most recent. Hybrids havent been devoid of growing pains and plenty of early prius cost their owners tons of cash in repairs.

Shit, should add cam towers on tundras 07-2020. They have known about it since 08 and never fixed the issue on the assembly line.

I was kind of wondering how hybrid does in water. It's really the only reason I keep a truck is for getting in water now. I don't mud anymore but we flood.

I am surprised by how many think the prius is sporty. I have driven one for work, didnt mind it but nothing special. I think SuperDave is right, if you havent grown up with at least one v8 or a turbo car then you have missed out on a lot of fun.

I'd prefer a gasser that has more usable low-end torque matted to an 8 speed tranny. There's no reason these small trucks shouldn't be getting 18-19 city and 24-28 highway.

Bump the torque up to 300-305 ft/lb. Give us a slightly shorter rear axle gear matted to an 8 speed transmission.

If the Tundra/Taco go the hybrid route, I'd probably just get the Tundra.

These are the same luddites in the late 90's who swore up & down "fuel injection and turbos on my drag car?!, sorry I don't wear a dress princess!"
They were dummies then and they're dummies now.
