Crapping the circuits while doing a bulb change? ..nope

 

My '05 needs to have engine ON for inverter to function though...

 

Man I would hate to be the guy who writes owners manuals.

I can only imagine how many people would be killing their truck batteries if Toyota didn't make it so the truck had to be running to power the inverter.

 

Them and the Toyota engineers probably have a support group at the local pouratorium.

 

I was curious, and wanted to see also. Only different result I could get, was to have the engine not running, but the key in the "On" position. At that point the outlet does have power. With that said, I wouldn't reccomend operating it like this, but I can get power to the outlet, without the engine running.

 

You must have a manual transmission. I just went to acc mode, I think another push of the button will put it in Ignition on mode, I will try that in the morning.
I did just read in the owners manual that in Ignition on mode (engine not running) the truck will auto power off after an hour. In ACC mode it will auto power off after 20 minutes.
So I guess, if it does power the bed outlet in IGN on mode, it will power down anyway after an hour. Not sure how far that will run the battery down if using the outlet, I guess it makes a difference what is using the power. I am not an electrical engineer nor any good at math, so I won't even try to figure that out.

 

Do any of you people really know what an inverter is?

Mine works WITHOUT the engine running. Someone owes me $500.

My inverter will work on second click without engine running. Not first (ACC) position. Canadian market truck.

 

So, it does come on with IGN on mode, engine not running.
To answer your question OP, it does not have a voltage cut off that I could see. However, it does state the vehicle will auto power down after 1 hour in IGN on mode. So if whatever you are powering up does not draw that much juice, you have an hour until it shuts off. Hope that helps.
