Seriously, I’d feel much more comfortable talking on someone who is above me looking at the lay of the entire space with their MK1 eyeballs.

Plus, no drone operator is gonna be on the phone with you like hog pilots will.

    Call sign: call for clearance
    Me: cleared hot
Call sign: copy, gonna fuck their shit up.
Call sign: two, rip them right down that irrigation ditch to the east

Me: attack complete, thanks for the help
Call sign: fuck yeah, stay safe, call when you need us.

No fucking lie. I was cyber warfare in 2009, and we still had to have a cell in the CAOC. The attack platforms were back in [REDACTED] but there still had to be folks working capabilities missions there with the knuckle-dragging airplane jocks. Trying to explain cyber effects to a bomb jockey is like describing algebra to a cat. They don't get it, but they'll still look at you in contempt.

i love Navy pilots for that, they gave a fuck

usaf dudes would get bored and either find an excuse to duck out if there wasn't contact when they checked-in or they'd just ghost us
Navy/Marine drivers always hung out, communicated very clearly, never turned down an AGI opportunity, and generally seemed very switched-on to what we needed on the floor

the only armed ISR airframes operated by the army was an LMAMs, which isn't a persistent platform

the rest are unarmed, unless you're talking about bantam or SDB-fitted airframes. but those are SOF birds and the end-users are very good

as for unarmed platforms, i've dealt with idiots driving nearly every ISR platform
the hard truth is this: most commanders/commands don't make finding-training quality talent for their small ISR a priority

if you want some stories, i can share a few after school

Army flies hellfire armed Grey Eagles now which are just a slightly different Predator. Great sensor capabilities but the operators just aren’t trained anywhere near well enough to be useful.

my opinion is that uav drivers should be selected and trained with the same mindset of value and importance of any other military aviator.

these folks fly nothing but IFR missions without the benefit of sensory feedback, and are usually tasked with high priority shit

being incremental and evolutionary in that training-education program is dumb.

edit: never worked with armed grey eagles, mostly small stuff like a puma ae, scaneagle, raven, heron... like that

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I kind walked away from hunting years ago. I kind of lost the desire. I prefer fishing now. Love getting out there with a fly rod. It is true; a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.
