Im sure there is no good way of going about this short of buying a new dashcam, but I figure Ill ask.

Anyone figure out a good way of running the rear dashcam with your soft topper? I cant put it on the back window (of the topper) since its not rigid enough to keep the camera from shaking around. My dashcam is not waterproof so it cant be placed under the tailgate.

Right now I have it in the back window of the cab, but with the topper up, its pretty limited on what it can see... granted you cant see much anyways since the tacoma is higher up than most of the cars on my daily drive.

Thinking about selling my current 2 channel and get one of those that records the inside and front of the truck.

I was in the same situation and just went with the front camera instead (blackvue). I've been lurking around for something else, too, but nothing looks good to me. One that records in cabin sort of makes sense, but that's only because I've seen some good videos being recorded inside. lol I guess something would be better than nothing! Also to see peoples reactions for stuff.

Thats kinda what I am thinking right now, my rear facing cam gets about as much as a passenger cam would catch... plus a passenger cam gets out the side windows to show if there is someone merging into you.

I have also looked into motorcycle cams, but they all seem to have external control boxes that generally clip to the handle bars.... also I dont think they come with 20 foot cables for the rear.

Could a outdoor camera be spliced in to replace the non water proof rear facing camera?

There was one on pure Tacoma that was wireless for the back portion. I’ve thought about it since I just picked my up too

What about fabricating some sort of holding rod that can support the camera so it can see through the transparent material? To prevent too much bobbing around, it'd probably need to have at least two anchor points, one on a vertical pole and another on a horizontal.

I ended up getting a new dashcam that just does front and inside the truck. Guess if somone hits me in the rear we will know who is at fault.
