Hey all, installing a full stereo in my Taco (non-JBL). Rewiring all the doors.

    Here’s the component list:
-Rockford Power T1 6x9’s (front doors) 4 ohm
-Rockford Power T1 6.5” (rear doors) 4 ohm
    -Kicker Subaru tweeters
    -Rockford Power T1 10” 2ohm
-Kicker ZX 750.1 mono amp (sub amp 2 ohm)
-Rockford 400w 4 channel (4 ohm) compact amp AD class
    -LC7i active LOC

I’m wondering you guys have mounted your LOC’s. I’m hesitant to mount it in the dash where I can’t access it for tuning. Before I tear apart the whole dash does anyone have a good location?

Also, the tweeters from what I understand are wired in parallel with the door speakers, I assume they have a capacitor to filter the lows, does anyone know those wire colors to tap into the new door wiring?

Sorry if there’s already a post for this, I couldn’t find one

    Thanks in advance,
    -J

Non-jbl doesnt need to be rewired unless you are running components with crossovers or full active system.

Your system will just plug into the stock harness, but you need to run speed wire from the headunit, to the lc7, then from the amp back to the headunit.
Search here for t-harness and that will give you a better idea.

But, many people like to put them under the drivers seat, or behind the rear seats.

    Eric,

    Thanks for the reply.

What do you mean by full active, like having individual amps at the speaker like in home audio?

I was planning on rewiring the whole thing with 4 home runs to the amp because the wire gauge on the stock harness is about 18 gauge wire and can’t carry the current of the 100w speakers.

Is there a decent area under the dash or by the kick panels for the LC7I? I’d hate to pull the seat to tune, if I turn the system on without the seat I’ll get an airbag light.

    Thoughts?

Full active is running is running 1 channel per speaker (tweeters get their own, woofers get their own, mids get their own) I am running full active on a 3 way component set up front and rear speakers in the back + sub. I have 3 amps, two 4 channels and a mono. Total of 9 channels all getting signal out of a 10 channel digital sound processor that crosses over the right freq digitally. I also get time alignment and much more control over each channel than running a passive system (external crossovers that go right before the speakers)

18 gauge can handle around 120 watts, so thats fine.

While there is some space under the drivers side of the dash, mounting is where it gets weird. you can fit it, but it may have to be angled to fit. I put my first amp under the dash, and it was a pain to do any tuning on it.

Under the seat, you can unbolt it then tilt it back to adjust. You would leave the airbag wires plugged in and have ample room to make adjustments. You can also just use velcro on the amp and it sticks to the carpet. Then if you need to adjust you can pull it, then put it back and it wont slide around.

EDIT: to give you a idea on speaker wire, for my DJ setup, I run 16 gauge wire in 50 foot runs, These run 350 watts each for 50 feet. the subwoofer runs 14 gauge for 6 feet at 1000 watts.

Wow! That sounds like and intense setup. You must be a real audiophile.

I just got so tired of my stock stereo... I have the Fender Audio system in my car and tunes sound pretty good, jump in the truck and it sounds like trash!

Thanks for the tips Erik, very helpful!

If you need more help there are a few other audio guys that mostly hang out in the audio subforum.

Here is my build thread for my current system, after the first few pages it turns into a android headunit discussion.

I have one amp and my loc under the passenger seat. It’s positioned that I can see the lci2 controls when the seat is slid all the way forward. So it’s easily accessible without any disassembly. And I can tune while sitting in the driver seat or in the back seat.
