Yes, EV will cut emission because electric motors are a lot more efficient than internal combustion engines. Internal combustion engines convert something like 20-30% (typically closer to 20% unless engine is high compression) of energy released from the burning fuel to kinetic energy. Rest is lost as heat. An electrical motor converts 90% of the energy it receives to kinetic energy and a gas power plant converts 60% of energy released from burned fuel to electricity. So overall using an EV vehicle has a lower carbon footprint (due to higher overall efficiency of energy conversion) even if electricity is generated from fossil fuels.

But what this doesn't take into account is energy loss during transport. If you transfer electricity across large distances using cables, you lose a lot of it since current flowing through a cable releases some of the energy as heat. If you include this in overall efficiency, it reduces overall efficiency. So total conversion to EV would require building of smaller power plants and distribute electricity locally, rather than supplying a large area from a single power plant. Renewable like wind are advantageous for this purposes since you can space turbines around rather than building a single gas plant. The issue with both wind and solar is that energy production fluctuates and currently we do not have the power to store excess energy, say at a "city-worth of energy" scale. Nuclear is an ideal candidate (they can even be built at a small size) if it didn't have the stigma of being unsafe, even when pollution from coal kills a lot more people.

But overall, this requires updating the entire power grid. Which would also have its own carbon cost since mining metal required for this would also release a lot of carbon. So it needs to be done in a highly organized passion where old infrastructure is recycled for new grid, rather than mining more.

The first hydrogen engine was invented in nineteenth century France and utilized hydrogen derived from electrolysis. The first self-contained electrolytic water engine was used early in the 20th... Who is this new "inventor"?

On a more relevant note, these findings--including an Indian man being "dealt with"--don't change the fact that the Ranger looks like a hot pile of garbage. That's why their sales numbers suffer.

Fellas. We really need to save the environment for the next generation, so let’s get on board with these EVs. We owe it to the kids to give them a future they can thrive in. Like, look at all this potential:

In the windshield, front fenders, and hood, it looks like a Ford Taurus, like a normal truck got clotheslined and had its forehead dragged back. Seriously, this is what the designers did to the new Ranger's roofline:

I can't be the only one who thinks this.

Ranger sucks. We have three of them at work. It hard to put your finger on just what is unappealing about them, but there is some bad juju in their DNA. If I was spending the kind of money they are asking on a Ford, I’d go F150. If I wanted a mini-truck, but did not like the Tacoma, I’d get a Frontier.

The absolute best business decision Ford made in recent times is when they cancelled the Ranger in the 1st place. They should have stuck to their plan.

I own both. My 2007 Ranger just does what it does, without sex, or violence. Actually, there is absolutely no sex in its non-violence. None. I am pretty sure that is what Ford intended for the current Ranger: to not get people off. And it does that. Remarkably. Witnessed by this thread...

Has anyone else noticed the dropping price of Rangers recently? In my area you can get a pretty loaded out XLT 4x4 Dbl cab in the 31-34k range. I think Ford really hosed themselves by coming out with such a high introductory price. I still see many on the lots and very few on the roads.

No, when I drive by a Ford dealer I look the other way and for sure don’t pull in to check prices.
