There's kind of a reason there's a fairly well defined box for pickup trucks. They do a specific job. Haul and tow stuff, typically long distances or offroad.

No one needs bullet proof windows. I mean, maybe if you're a foreign dignitary, but I'm certainly not.

The only thing "outside the box" with this new Tesla is the styling. This thing looks like the lovechild of a Delorean and an Aztec. Not my cup of tea, lol.

I dunno about a true EV, but be it a hybrid ford ranger or a Tacoma hybrid and I'd be very interested.

Ford offered full EV OEM Rangers back in the late 90’s. They sold them to municipalities and airports mainly IIRC.

yup just picked up my 19 Ranger for 30k fully loaded. Can’t argue the price and drives so much better then the Tacoma 3rd gen. I wasnt crazy about the turd gen looks but it grew on me. Same thing is happening with the Ranger if done up right looks great. Still prefer the Tacoma looks though. One thing I’ve been super impressed with Ford is there willingness to do things most companies won’t do. IE there releasing a tune for the Ranger that increase the HP by 50 and torque by 75 or something along those lines. It’s also comes with a factory warranty. Pretty cool that a car company would do that. Something Toyota would never do. Also love the Ford app that lets me remote start the truck and lock with other useful info.

I sat in a Ranger at the auto show in Seattle a few weeks ago and was surprised by how cheap and ugly the interior seemed, poor fit and finish and just a plain unattractive design. For as much crap as the car journalists like to give the Tacoma interior, at least it looks nice.

It’s a little humorous to see how the Ranger has gone from absolutely no discounts, no matter what, to deep deep discounts over the last 10 months.

Ya, back in Nov they offered me $500. off MSRP. I was like...are you joking? I can buy a Tacoma for the same price, and that's what I did.

Now Ford is knocking 20% off of the XLT FX4 models.

It was a small lot in a small town with 31 rangers, and all they would do was $500. off. STUPID!!

Just out of curiosity I clicked on the local Ford Dealer and the Ranger had a $7011 Discount, they must really be trying to unload them.

I like to imagine thousands of little nuclear generators spread across the globe. And storing the spent rods on the moon. Show me a better way and I’m all ears! (Wind and solar ain’t it)

(And tbh, I’d hesitate to do anything to the moon until we’re a lot smarter than we are now)

Yeah. Over $5k Cdn off on a Lariat where I live. It’s a “year end event”....wooot.....more like “can someone come buy these goddam trucks to get them off the lot”

Ya I agree. Though you get more bang for your buck with the Ranger it’s not going to compete with the Tacoma at the same price point. Now if it’s 5-7 thousand less then it has a shot to take second place no doubt. I think the interior is way better then the Tacoma. Only thing I don’t like is the AC and heat buttons are super small. But I control everything from the screen anyways which makes it easier.

When ranger first came out, ford tried to ride Tacoma's coattails . Now they realize their truck cannot in the same price category

53k CAD is about 40k USD.

They have got to be out of their minds.

I’m agnostic about the Ranger, don’t care one way or the other, but where’s your reference for this tune? I can’t find any info on Ford offering this.

Any tune that increases a turbo engine output by 20-25% is going to be stressful on the engine, especially if pushed to its limits with towing, etc.

I can’t imagine Ford sanctioning a tune like this, much less offering one, but I’m prepared to be surprised.

(I come from the WRX world where tunes are common but definitely at the user’s own risk.)

I would love to have been at the board meeting where they decided “Probe” was a great name for a car.

They even smack down a Toyota 4WD in this add. Bastards.
